I was looking after my nephew last week who is 5 years old and very fussy about what he will and wont eat. One of his favourite foods is spaghetti hoops on toast and that is what he decided he wanted for lunch whilst in my care. All very well and good, I thought, but I knew full well that the ones I had in my cupboard were Asda Smart Price and bound to ring alarm bells with him immediately as not the ones he usually eats. I was therefore very careful in not letting him see the actual tin and hoped to get them on to a plate in front of him without him actually being aware of the fact they weren't of the Heinz variety. I also decided to join him for ... Read the complete review

While in Asda recently I decided to spend a few pounds on their Smart Price range as I have heard good things about some of the products and I was curious as to how it compares to the excellent Tesco Value range. I'm not usually a fan of tinned pasta but really fancied some spaghetti hoops on toast, there were only the multi-packs of four Heinz spaghetti available which is enough to last me for two years so I opted for a tin of Smart Price Spaghetti Loops which were priced at just 14p. I was much more impressed than I thought I would be, and when I served some to my granddaughters' they didn't even notice that it wasn't their usual Heinz ... Read the complete review

Asda's own is a range I am buying more and more of lately - their cheap prices draw me in time after time, and it was a no brainer that it would be worth checking out their spaghetti loops; how can you go wrong with such a simple product? So, for just 14p, you get a whole tin of loops, which is a remarkably cheap price compared to Heinz or other leading brands. The loops themselves are completely indistinguishable from other brands. The soft loops are fairly limp and rubbery, but aren't they all? Still, they remain loopy and don't break up, so there's no problem there. The softness makes them ideal for little ones, who won't have to chew them up. ... Read the complete review

My grand kids eat spaghetti like it is going out of fashion and I always make sure I have plenty in for them if they come to stay or even if they are just over for lunch or tea. On a recent trip to Asda I decided to give the Smart price spaghetti loops a try and I am quite glad I did. These are exactly the same to look at as the Heinz spaghetti hoops but they are a bit different in taste although still good. The loops themselves are fine and very good quality for the tiny price, the real difference comes in the sauce which for the kids made no difference but I always like to dip some buttered bread in my spaghetti so the sauce put me ... I sometimes buy these for my little one. It makes a change from the boring old 'Straight' spaghetti that they do and I quite like the novelty of having hoops instead as well. The loops cost me 14p from Asda and come in the standard embarressing Smartprice packaging. I think this packaging is getting less and less embaressing to have in your trolley these days as a lot of people go back to basics because they can't afford much else. The actual loops are a pretty good size and pretty substantial. I was hoping that I could get Noah to put a few on his little finger and get over his silly phobia of getting his hands dirty but that didn't work. He ... Read the complete review
