Advantages: It's cheap and tastes like ketchup!
Disadvantages: The rim gets a little messy with dried up ketchup
Being on a rather strict budget myself and my husband have been trying smart price/value and basics brands over the last few years. Before I begin I'm not too fussy about eating brand named products, but my husband is extremely fussy and ate nothing but Heinz in terms of ketchup.
In comparison with the other value ketchups out there, I think Asda is on par with Sainsburys. And both are a million times better than the Tesco Value Ketchup.
The packaging
==========
OK, so it comes in a glass bottle with a screw top...well just think back to the days of the old ketchup when squeezy bottles didn't exist. We all coped then. Anyhow, I think the Smart price is ever so slightly more runny so you don't have to hang it upside down for hours and bang on it a hundred times before a blob comes out. It's still thick enough though to be decent enough ketchup.
The Taste
=========
It _does_ taste different to Heinz. But that's all....just different. After eating Asda smart price for 2 years, I now find myself thinking that Heinz ketchup is the different tasting one. So I think it's just what you're used to.
In my personal opinion, I think in comparison to Heinz it's just less sweet.
The price
========
I believe it's 26p in my store at the moment, and for this reason I am giving it 5 stars. It's an absolute bargain.
Summary: It's red, it looks like ketchup, it tastes like ketchup. Bargain buy.

- 24/09/08 Some products taste like the top brands although some do taste cheap and not nice though. Even so for the price you can't really moan :)
Good review by the way :) |
