I had sat down to lasagne for tea, and when I tasted the dish, I realised it was actually quite bland, unusually, and I needed to give the flavour a lift. So when I raided the kitchen cupboard, I came across Asda Smartprice Tomato Ketchup (or red sauce to us 'more common' folk!). Lasagne and ketchup - not a combination I had experienced before, but I was willing to give it a try! And I must say, it did go down a treat!

The tomato ketchup comes in a clear glass bottle. This is handy as it allows you to see how much of the 554g bottle you have used. And I must say, the bottle does seem to last quite a long time, as there always seems to be lots left!

The sauce itself comes out it quite a big dollop, but as it is slow to slide out rather than gushing, you are able to control this dollop to make sure only one does come out! It's very thick, almost like tomato puree. It has quite a sweet tomato taste, compared to lets say Heinz, which is usually more bitter. Though it definitely does have that tomato hint, which is the main thing!

Reading the back of the classic green and white smartprice label, I saw that each average serving of a 15g tablespoon contained just 13 calories and 2.7g sugar, as well as just a trace of fat. This was really good to know, and it only has 0.2g salt as well, so that is not too bad I'd say! On the front it clearly states 'No Colours', which is also positive (I found this funny, considering the sauce itself is a bright red shade!).

The sauce is both tasty and useful. You can enjoy it as an extra with a main meal, or perhaps in a sandwich (I strongly recommend chicken!). Either way, for 28p, you cannot go wrong!
