Advantages: Tastes great and is very cheap
Disadvantages: So nice, it goes very quickly in our house
In my opinion this is one of Asda's hidden treasures (or not so hidden what with there being hundreds of them on the shelf in the sauce aisle!). It's just 25p and I think it is just as good as the leading brands.
The sauce comes in a clear glass bottle with the classic green and white smartprice label pasted around it.
I must admit I was a little dubious at how the consistency of the sauce would be. I had memories of my family and I sat around the dining room table waiting whilst my dad tried his hardest to get the red sauce to come out of the bottle. He used to shake and shake and then when the sauce finally moved a little we'd spend ages waiting for it to drip onto our chips then all of a sudden the whole bottle would spill out and we'd end up having to spoon it back into the bottle.
I have to say that the consistency of this sauce is just right, it's not like water but it's also not like lumpy gravy.
The taste is very tomatoey and pleasant on the palate. I thought it may be quite vinegary or leave an upleasant after taste but it's really good. My son enjoys eating it from the corner of his plate with a spoon and I often have it in a sandwich with some pepper (is that weird?).
Over all this is a great budget sauce and I definately encourage you all to give it a go if you shop at Asda, you won't be disappointed.
Summary: A great budget product that won't disappoint:)

- 17/11/08 I've never bought the basic sauce before basically because I thought it would be awful and my kids are fussy lol may just give it a go now, thanks! |

- 17/11/08 I'm afraid I just can't do cheaper version of tomotao sauce - they seem to be far too sweet for me. Nice review though. |
