Advantages: The price

Disadvantages: None really, you might just notice a difference in taste from Heinz

I go through these patches where I need to really have a go at making some sort of saving on the weekly shop and it is at times like these when i will ignore the Heinz Tomato Ketchup or the HP sauce and go straight for the supermarket own brand sauce.

Now it is so easy for us all to kid ourselves that you are not going to get the flavour of the originals, and that if you want that authenticity, you need to go for the real thing.

Well that also depends if you are trying to save a few extra pennies.

And with that in mind I picked this up.

So the time came to try it out. Now I am more of a Brown sauce than a Red sauce type, and generally only have this with chips and something non-meat (brown sauce is for meat or fish in my little world), except for beefburgers.

So, I am sat with a beefburger and a plate of chips. There is no burger relish in the fridge, so PLOP, a big dollop of Asda Smartprice Tomato Ketchup finds its way into my burger bun.

SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH! goes the ketchup all over my chips and I get tucked in!

Now for the important bit - the taste.

It tasted like... wait for it....

tomato ketchup - what an anticlimax ehh??

There was nothing untoward about the flavour. It had the zinginess of the vinegar I assume is used in making this, there was the sweetness of the tomatoes (and the probable added sugar - sorry I haven't read the ingredients). That to me is what should be in a tomato ketchup. OK to be honest there is something missing that I can't put my finger on, that you are going to get with a 'premium' brand such as heinz, but this ketchup is more than passable at (IIRC) about 30 pence a bottle.

Summary: Value for Money
