On the days when I want something light I usually just open a can of Tuna Chunks, drain it and then throw it with a salad, in a sandwich or toss it with a little pasta. This tuna comes in an aluminium can and a can opener will be required as there is no ring pull on this can. It has a paper label on it displaying the Asda Smartprice logo, a picture of the tuna chunks, ingredients (tuna, water & salt) & nutritional information. There is plenty of brine in the can and this keeps the tuna fairly moist and delicious and once drained off the weight of the tuna is 129g so you get 56g of brine in each can. Also, if you have a cat they might like ... Read the complete review

I love tuna, it's such a versatile foodstuff, use it as a sandwich filler, add to pasta, eaten as a steak with vegetables, even with salad and mayonnaise is a great companion to it, as is a tomato based sauce. Mix with vinegar and peppers for a moist tuna crunch, the possibilities can be endless! It's a great alternative to meat with the bonus of protein to boot. It's also very healthy for all those weight watchers out there, with just 69 calories per half a tin and 'trace' saturated fat (based on the Smartprice nutritional information). Too good to be true, surely! Now in these difficult financial times more and more people are turning to the basics range ... Read the complete review

I love tuna and it's a great way for me to reach my protein intake as I don't like meat. The ASDA Smartprice tuna is cheap and of a good quality and the only downside is that the tuna comes in brine instead of water or oil. If you don't mind the brine I can recommend the tuna chunks - the quality is good and they are a great base for many nice dishes - have a look at the end of my review for my favourite tuna dish. --------------- Packing The tuna chunks come in a medium sized flat tin without lid opener - for me a big minus point as I can never find my can opener and have to search for 10min to find it. The label is the ... Read the complete review

I like to keep some tuna at home because if I come back home and I do not want to cook, particularly if I am alone, I may well have one tin of tuna (I eat the tuna, not the tin) Asda offers a wide range of value products, like Tesco and Sainsbury. I normally buy Tuna from Asda, more than from Tesco. A tin costs 58 p (it used to be much cheaper though) and it has rounghly 2/3of tuna and 1/3 of brine. The brine is what keeps the tuna moist, although it makes it may be a bit saltier than the tuna in oil. You need a tin opener for this product, which is the only negative thing I can see. I would pay 10 pennies more for it to have a ... Read the complete review

I love fish and I like to make sure my boys eat plenty of it too. I try to eat a lot of fresh fish but it is costly which is why I like to have a few tins of these and various other tinned fish in the cupboards. The tin costs 58p which is cheap for tuna but I remember when it was only 29p around a year a go so it's getting more and more costly. On opening the tin you need to drain the fish because it's sitting in brine. I usually do this by either using the lid to push all of the juices out or popping it in a sieve and using a fork to push the brine through. The tuna is a nice pale fleshy colour and you cans ee straight away that it's ... Read the complete review
