I have quite a sweet tooth and love to eat sweets, chocolate, biscuits etc now and again but find the prices quite steep for the leading brands and have been trying out some of the supermarket own brands and value brands on a mission to find some good alternatives to the leading brands which are just as good, if not better for a fraction of the price. This is my second shot at trying out an Asda smartprice range in sweets and another fail im affraid. I do love winegums and if i am going to get a packet of sweets i am likely to buy winegums but i always buy Maynards wine gums and enjoy them so i thought i would give the Smartprice ones a try. Wine Gums are chewy sweets that (oddly) contain no wine, but use fruit flavours to simulate closely the taste of certain alcoholic drinks. Each sweet is labelled for a drink e.g. 'port'. I love the Godfather of all wine gums (Maynards ones) but they're a bit on the pricey side, so I decided to try some of Asda's own. On the whole, I find Asda's own to be a good range, with only a couple of exceptions - this is one of them. On Christmas day, I opened the packet, and dove in; it was disappointing. I've always been fond of Wine Gums, as has my dad. Maynards wine gums however can be quite expensive for what they are and so for a while we have been looking for alternatives. That was when I found Asda's Smart Price Wine Gums, which are now a popular purchase within our family. The sweets in question come in a very plain white and green bag with the words Asda Smart Price Wine Gums printed prominently on the front. The front of the bag also tells me that the sweets contain no artificial colours or flavours.
