Advantages: Taste great, add a different element to desserts

Disadvantages: Bad for the waistline!

~About Askeys~
You wouldn't believe it but Askeys has been going strong for 99 years! It was first founded back in 1910 when the business was set up in Kensal Road, London by Laurens Tedeschi. It was Askeys who first brought the ice-cream cone into the UK. They now produce millions of ice-cream cones and wafers each year. In the decades after this time, they branched out into dessert toppings such as sauces and sprinkles and crackin. Crackin is mainly used on ice-cream. It is a sauce which then hardens before your eyes when squirted onto your ice-cream to give a crisp, crackly topping.

~Sauces~
Askeys product their 'Treat' dessert sauces in a variety of five different flavours. These are dark chocolate, milk chocolate, toffee, strawberry and raspberry. I am personally a huge fan of the milk chocolate sauce. I have never tried the toffee, as I fear it would be too sickly for me, but we as a family have tried all the other sauces and they have all gone down a 'treat'.

You would expect a chocolate sauce such as this to be sickly, but it actually wasn't. It was rather sweet and the chocolate flavouring didn't taste at all 'cheap' as I expected it too. Instead it was pretty tasty and quite strong in flavour, meaning you only need a little bit to transform a bland dessert into a tasty one. A couple of squirts of this sauce is ample enough to add a decent amount of flavouring to any dessert.

The consistency of the sauce is better than I expected. Its quite thin but not too runny so it gets too messy! Its just right actually. It spreads easily should you wish to use it in that way, but it definitely has a thickness to it that I wasn't expecting. When you open the lid you can really smell the flavouring of the sauce. Each sauce I have tried smells divine! Again, quite sweet but not sickly. Just thinking of it is making me hungry, this type of review is no good for my waistline!!

The sauces are produced in a plastic bottle with a blue plastic flip-top lid on top. The packaging is really appealing and stands out on the shelves. Each bottle has the famous blue and white Askeys logo plastered across the top of the bottle, with the 'Treat' logo standing out across the middle. There is a 'splash' of sauce taking up the rest of the bottle, indicating which flavour sauce you are purchasing, with a little star man in the corner with a magic wand indicating that with these sauces you can 'create a bit of magic'. The bottle is an hourglass shape.

~Nutritional Info per 100g~
Energy 375.1Kcal
Protein - 1.1g
Carbohydrates - 66.8g
Fat - 11.5g

The above doesn't obviously make a great reading in the health department, but then its not going to is it. This kind of product is never going to be healthy now is it? It is simply to be used in a fun way to enhance your favourite desserts. These sauces do however contain no artificial colours, flavourings and preservatives if that helps!

These sauces generally have a use by date of just under 12 months, so plenty of time to consume a bottle! You are recommended to store in a cool place, but not in the fridge. A kitchen cupboard out of direct sunlight is fine and leaves the sauce chilled, but not cold.

~Ingredients (milk chocolate flavour)~
Invert sugar syrup, milk, cocoa mass, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oil, dried glucose syrup and, fat reduced cocoa powder.

Askeys treat sauces are great for use on pancakes, ice-cream, rice pudding, fruit and pretty much anything else you like. I personally love their chocolate sauce with vanilla ice-cream drenched over warm pancakes - gorgeous!!!

~Price~
For a 325g bottle of Askeys 'Treat' sauces, you will pay just 91p, which I think is great value for money as a bottle can last a while (unless you live in my house!). You pay the same price for whichever flavour you buy. A 225g bottle of Askeys crackin will set you back just 86p too, which is also great value for money. A tub of Askeys sprinkles will cost you £2.00 exactly. For a real bargain you can get a pack of 48 Askeys wafer biscuits for just 15p!

For further information on Askeys products you can visit their website www.askeys.co.uk or you can write to them at The Silver Spoon Company, Oundle Road, Peterborough, PE2 9QU.

~Summary~
Overall, I love Askeys sauces. They are tasty and not too messy, which is always a bonus if you have young children in the house like me! It is a product which is loved by both adults and children. It has the fun factor which kids love and will definitely get them wanting to eat what's in front of them (a great tool if you have finicky children at mealtimes!). For adults, it provided a tasty accompaniment to any dessert. It is a naughty but nice dessert topping, giving adults the chance to rebel against being ruled by calorie and fat content! As they say, a little bit of what you fancy does you good, and that's exactly what you get with this Askeys sauces.

They are versatile, long lasting and not too sickly either. I think they are priced very competitively and are the best dessert toppings of their type available on the market at present. If you have never tried any of Askeys products, then I thoroughly recommend you do. You won't be sorry - though your waistline may be!!!!

Summary: You'll love it!!

these are great, but I must admit I prefer to import Hershey's choclate sauce for when I do banana splits. Just for that though!
