I sometimes cook Sunday dinner for my family but I'm quite a novice cook so am not very good at getting everything cooked all at the same time yet even though I can usually get all the seperate things cooked nice it's just that some of the things might be cold by the time the rest of the meal is done! Last week I brought Aunt Bessies roast potatoes because I wanted everything to be just right and I knew I'd be able to get my timings right with such straight forward cooking instructions. They are proper nice and even though you can tell they're not home made they're still dead tasty and are lovely and fluffy inside. Before you cook them they feel ... Read the complete review

There is a strange sense of shame attached to what I'm about to write - most of us are time pressed these days but I still feel pressure to cook from my family from scratch. However, when I saw the Aunt Bessie's Roast Potatoes in the £1 end of aisle display at Tescos, I thought 'just this once'. So I cooked them up on a busy evening with left over roast chicken breast, vegetables and gravy and served them up with as innocent look as I could muster. I expected my family to eat them up without a query but I was quite intrigued as to how they would come up. They had taken just half an hour in the oven and they looked lovely and crispy on the ... Confession is supposed to be good for the soul! Don't laugh now! I spent 3 years at college learning management for catering and Housekeeping. I could already cook, having been taught by my Mother when I was only 11 as she had had an operation and couldn't use her arms, I have got an A Grade Advanced GCE in Cookery, I am also a Woman's Rural cookery Judge and yet I confess I bought Aunt Bessie's Homestyle Roast Potatoes. There I've said it! I had seen these in the freezer but not given then more than a cursory glance, whoever buys frozen roast potatoes. Well I confess I did both for Christmas 2007 and again for last year as they were actually not bad ... Read the complete review

I am trying to decide how I can get Aunty Bessie to come and live with us. Whilst I think about it I will make do with buying her Roast potatoes once in a while. If you are rushing and don't want to faff about peeling spuds, drying them, getting the oil hot in the pan and then basting your roasties, these are the thing for you! Open the freezer, shake some out onto a baking tray. Cook in the oven for half an hour and they are done! Absolutely no messing about! It says on the packet to turn them half way through cooking but I have never done so and they have cooked perfectly. They come out a lovely golden colour and smell ... Read the complete review

I have to admit it, I am a roast potato snob, and even I will eat these! I have been spoilt and been lucky that my Dad has always made gorgeous roast potatoes every Sunday. He always makes extra special ones at Xmas with goose fat, and therefore I have always been so wary about trying other brands as they just wont live up to the home cooked magic! I foolishly agreed to cook for a group of people and I had my heart set on doing a roast. As it was one of the first times I had cooked for so many people I wanted to play it safe so went to my local supermarket looking for roast potatoes. These seemed like a superior brand, and if I had to buy any they looked the ... Read the complete review
