Advantages: Tastes great, easy to prepare

Disadvantages: None

It's that time of year again. Winter is approaching and we are back to the warming, traditional Sunday roast dinners (not sure about you but we tend to do BBQ's in the summer instead, weather permitting!). For me there's nothing better than a good old fashioned roast beef dinner with all the trimmings on a cold Sunday afternoon, and of course that roast dinner isn't complete without the Yorkshire puddings.

I'm not the best cook in the world and I don't pretend to be. My main problem seems to be trying to get everything in different pots and pans all to be piping hot and cooked through all ready at the same time, bit of a nightmare for me really! I would make my own Yorkshires at home, but to tell the truth with having to do the meat, veg and potatoes is enough work for me so I tend to cheat when it comes to my Yorkshire puddings and buy them in from the supermarket - and lets face it, you can't beat Aunt Bessie's when it comes to a ready made Yorkshire Pudding!

~The Product~
For me a good Yorkshire pudding consists of the following - a golden brown, crispy exterior with a soft, fluffy centre to compliment it and this is what you get with an Aunt Bessie Yorkshire pudding. They take just 4 minutes to cook from frozen and the instructions really couldn't be more simple. Simply open the pack, place them on a baking tray and place in the oven.

The recommended temperature for cooking is 200 degrees Celsius, 400 degrees Fahrenheit or Gas Mark 6 depending on what type of oven you own.

You can see them rise and change colour as soon as you place them in the oven and the smell from the oven when they are cooking is mouth-watering!

When you remove them from the oven 4 minutes later, simply remove from tray and serve - it really is that simple! Each Yorkshire pudding is circular and measures around 6/7cm in diameter and a couple of centimetres tall with a cratered centre.

~Price/Packaging~
Aunt Bessies Yorkshire puddings are available in a few different varieties. You have the original Yorkshire puddings which are available as a pack of 12 for just £1.20, you can buy a pack of Yorkshire pudding batters, which take longer to cook as they are not ready made, though take less room in the freezer to store. These come in a pack of 12 for £1.39.

You can also get giant Yorkshire puddings in the Aunt Bessies range which can be filled to make a tasty meal. You get 4 in a pack for £1.49. Finally, they do a light, large and crispy pack of Yorkshire puddings in which you get 6 in a pack for £1.39. They are basically as said, they are larger, lighter and crispier than the originals (though personally, apart from a slight difference in size, I really can't tell much difference in these, so I stick to the originals as they as far more economically priced).

~Nutritional Information (per pudding)
Protein - 1.9g
Carbohydrates - 6.7g
Fat - 2.1g
Fibre - 0;4g
Sodium - 0.1g

The above doesn't read too badly in my opinion. Fat content could be lower but apart from that, these really are quite good.

~Summary~
I have tried pretty much every brand of Yorkshires available on the market at present, but now I still to Aunt Bessies. These are one of the highest priced packs of Yorkshire puddings but you can't really put a price on their quality.

I have tried value Yorkshires to try and save some pennies and although they look the same when baked, they are just rather bland in taste compared to that of the Aunt Bessies.

I really think the crispy exterior compliments the softer centre really well. When cooked to perfection I believe this is the closest you will get to home cooked Yorkshires from the supermarket. They are light, filling and most importantly, extremely tasty. A winner in my book, well done Aunt Bessie!

Summary: You can't beat an Aunt Bessie!

Strange as it may seem - I like these warm, with jam on them (not on the dinner plate though)
