Advantages: Taste okay and each one is fresh each time
Disadvantages: Not great
Mini Babybel - cheese
Description: Soft cheese made of cow milk. Made famous by lunch trays on transatlantic flights, Babybel is the French version of the Dutch cheese Edam, and features distinctive colored wax coatings. Wine Partners: Pinot Noir. Fat Content: 25%. Water Content: 45%.
A 6 pack of these cost me £1.65 from my local shop, they arrive contained in a net bag, and look like tiny edams. Because each one is individually wrapped, it means that they are fresh every time and good to pop in a lunchbox.
I hadn't had these for ages (I mean years, possibly since I was a kid) so when I saw them in my local shop, I gave in to temptation and bought a pack. To be honest, I was a little disappointed, they seemed slightly more artificial tasting than I remembered and just a tiny bit rubbery. They were still okay and I would eat them again, though perhaps wouldn't actually go out and buy them again. But hey, if they were in the fridge!
Each cheese is around 20g.
Per 100g, there are 299 calories, and 23g of fat.
I think these may be more aimed at kids, and perhaps lose a little of their appeal as you get older. They weren't unpleasant, just not great.
I like the fact that they are individually wrapped, and they were okay, but nothing special so they get 3 stars from me.
Summary: Wouldn't rush out to buy these

- 01/11/09 There's not much allure in a tiny wheel of cheese, plus their ads don't really motivate me to even try it. |
