-- JELLY BABIES--

"When Jelly Babies were launched in 1918 to celebrate the end of World War 1, Bassett's called them "Peace Babies". Shortage of raw materials stopped production during the Second World War, but was resumed in 1953 when the sweets became known as Jelly Babies".

I adore Jelly babies. There is something really fun about them and I love biting off their heads! They appeal to young and old and they really are cheerful colourful soft sweet characters. Made by Bassets, they are one of the biggest selling jelly sweets in the UK today. "Bassetts are available in Great Britain and Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and North America. Along with their Liquorice Allsorts Bassetts Jelly Babies are now very much a UK national institution".-

Bassetts Jelly Babies have a charm all of their own. They each have a character and each individual Jelly Baby comes complete with its own sex, colour, flavour and name. The strawberry one is shown with a peaked cap and a cheeky smile and his name is 'Brilliant'. The lemon one is a little girl with a pony tail and bow and she is called 'Bubbles'. The lime one is a baby with a tiny curl on his head and his name is 'Boofuls'. Cute; the blackcurrant variety looks sweet and she is called 'Big Heart'. Then you have orange that looks a bit cheeky and his name is 'Bumper'. Last but not least is the raspberry Jelly Baby and her name is 'Baby Bonny'.

Bassetts have been very clever in personalising these sweets and giving them a character. Also by promoting them as little people which appeals greatly to children. They are an extremely popular impulse buy in the shops today. Children love them. Not only are they absolutely delicious and full of flavour but they are cute little boys and girls too. It's always a bit sad to bite their heads off, but we do. It seems a bit naughty and it brings out the devil in us. The flavours of the Jelly Babies are succulent and they are completely natural in colour and flavour. So it is nice to know that your child is in fact eating a sweet that will not encourage too much tooth decay and they are eating something that is natural and with no added colourings.

--THE PRODUCT--
The jelly Babies come to us in a bright yellow packet, very cheerful in appearance. With the Basset's in a bright red bubble above the name of Jelly Babies with the letters all featured in different primary colours. Beneath this there are three jolly Jelly Babies. 'Brilliant' is waving his arms at us while 'Boofuls' is crying and wiping his eye. The little yellow Jelly Baby, Bubbles, is in front waving with a wide smile, wearing a bow on her pony tail and large beads around her neck. There is a big green leaf sitting beside an orange and lemon containing the words 'Natural' colours and flavours and "Made with real fruit juice".

It's also telling us to check out our GDA. (Guideline Daily Amounts)Which are all to the reverse of the packet. The weight is 215 g, and we purchased this and a packet of Maynards wine gums for the special price of £1.80, I think separately they are about £1.10 per packet. It also states that at "Cadbury Trebor Bassett they are passionate about making top quality products" and should you not be happy with your purchase, for some reason, that you can return the product giving details of where you have bought it, and send to the address supplied on the back of the packet.-

---THE FLAVOUR--
The flavours of the Jelly Babies are delicious. Bassett's use real fruit juice in this product and it certainly makes a difference to taste. The Jelly is nice and firm on the outside and softer to the inside. I like the dusting of powdered sugar they put on the Jelly Babies it gives the first bite a delicate flavouring before your taste buds get to grips with the full fruit flavour of the centre of the product which delivers a strong fruit flavouring to the mouth. All the fruit flavours are defined and very tasty. They are fully satisfying as a sweet because of the delicious flavours and soft chewy texture of the Jelly babies.-

---SUMMARY---
Where I think Basset's have been very clever is in their product image of this product. Also the fact that they have used bright primary colours on the packaging of the Jelly Babies making them cheerful and eye catching. They have also made the Jelly Babies boys and girls and given them delightful, individual characters. All of this very endearing to a child's mind; apart from the fact that they are actually completely delicious.

Well my overall opinion is that I think Basset's Jelly Babies are great! They have captured my imagination with their cheerful packet and Jelly Baby characters. Buying them for me is a lot to do with that fact. Basically, they are fun! And definitely bring a smile to the face. The flavours are genuinely great. My favourite is the orange one; Bumper. It is full of real orange flavour. All the flavours are absolutely delicious. The only downside is you eat them far too quickly as they are just so more'ish! Well they have my vote. Recommended 100%.-
