... some boiling water and stir very well. You need to stir for a minute or two just to ensure that all of the powder is blended with the hot water otherwise you will end up with lumps in your soup or a big bit of slodge left at the end in your mug. The soup itself is very tasty it does have a chicken taste to it and it's got a fairly high salt content which is vaguely detectable. I could taste the salt and it was quite off putting. There was a fairly good taste to the soup, when you couldn't taste too much salt and I...more

Premium Review Batchelors Cup-a-Soup: Winter Warmers (688 words)

I have bought a few of these in different flavours, chicken, chicken and leek, chicken and sweetcorn and rich tomato and basil and have decided that I prefer the 'Original Chicken' flavour, whereas my other half prefers the 'Rich Tomato and basil'. These cost around 88p for a box of 4 or 5 sachets (I have found this varies with flavours but don't understand why!), although they are on special offer at the moment in Asda at 2 for £1, so I have stocked up on these as I enjoy them as a quick fix before tea when I get home from work, especially as the weather has been really wintery and cold lately. They are very easy to make, just add some boiling ...  Read the complete review

Batchelors Cup a Soup Chicken and Vegetable with Croutons There is nothing better on a cold, wintry day, than a hot cup of soup to warm the cockles of your heart but making fresh soup requires time and energy. Peeling carrots, chopping chicken and slicing onions when you've had three hours sleep and can barely see straight anyway can be a bit too much like hard work, which is when this stuff comes into it's own. Batchelors Cup a Soups have been around for years and years - the general idea being powdered soup to which you add boiling water and hey presto, you have a hot cup of...well...soup! In the time it takes to boil a kettle, pour and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Batchelors Cup-a-Soup: A Great Big Hug In a Mug (543 words)

I have always loved Cup a Soup, however when i go shopping for reason I always forget to put some in my trolley and when I get home, I always remember, however on my last shopping trip, i did remember and I didn't put one box in, I put several in because I know once they are in the house they will go quick as I will tend to have one when I am a little hungry but don't really want to eat anything, I find that these tidy me over for a little while, but then again some flavours are a little moreish and I have been know to have three one after another, i could have just had a bowl of soup at that rate. Over the years there have been more and more flavour additions ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Are you a Batchelors boy (or girl?) (311 words)

I generally bring sandwiches into work for my lunch in the office. But I also like to have something quick and easy of the hot variety too. One of the things I keep a supply of for lunches are Batchelors Cup a Soup. You can get a variety of different soups in a sachet that you just add boiling water to in a mug. The soups include: Tomato Golden Vegetable Chicken Cream of Mushroom Chicken & Vegetable Minestrone You can get the soup either with or without croutons. I personally like the idea of croutons but then find them too crunchy and they end up irritating me. A cup of tomato soup will cost you 92kcal, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Batchelors Cup-a-Soup: A great big BARF in a mug! (227 words)

Hmm I'm really not impressed with these. I thought that maybe it might be an acquired taste so I have tried them occasionally over the years and each time I've only ever used one sachet out of the box and dumped the rest in the bin! Best place for them I think! It costs around 80p or 90p for a box containing 4 sachets. It is true that instant products are never as good as home made And cup a soup certainly proves this! I made my cup a soup according to the instructions on the box...(added the sachet to my favourite mug and poured on some boiling water) The aroma was quite pleasent but do not be fooled by this! I had to let ...  Read the complete review
