Batchelors Golden Savoury Rice Description: Manufacturer: Batchelors / Type: Ready Meals I tried this rice for the first time last week, though have seen it on the shelves for years. It comes in a bright and shiny blue packet with the logo on the front and a picture of the rice too. You can buy different flavours of this rice product as well as the one I am reviewing. A 120g packet cost me £0.79 from my local supermarket, and you can find it in most shops. All you need to do to prepare is to add the rice to a pan with cold water (see pack for precise amounts) and then cook for around 20 minutes (check pack and ... Read the complete review

I brought Batchelors savoury rice last week as it was on offer, buy on get one free at a local supermarket. At 89p for two packets of golden rice, I couldn't resist. Packaging... The savoury rice comes dried and in a blue packet with a picture of the product on the front. It also has the Batchelors logo and the flavour written on. On emptying into the saucepan, I noticed a strong flavour coming from the rice, It smelled like a chicken oxo cube. The hard dried grains of rice had an assortment of dried vegetables with them. ... I am always on the lookout for something that is quick, simple and cheap for my lunches during the week as I'm eating alone and don't want to waste time slaving over a stove and leave myself with lots of washing up. I saw this Batchelors Savoury Rice in my local Iceland recently and as it was at a bargain price I picked up three and threw them in to my trolley. The packet is easy to open and inside is dried rice, peas, carrots, peppers and beans. I am not the best vegetable eater at any time so I want something that is small and barely noticeable (i.e covered with a taste!) so that I can help get some nutrients in my diet. The rice is ... My lunch today! After my mid morning snack of Amore yoghurt I wasn't hungry until about 2pm and then really fancied this, luckily I had one in the back of the cupboard! Batchelors savoury rice is available in lots of other flavours too, ones I've tried include Mild Curry (bland) and Mushroom (also a bit boring) The 'Golden' version is a firm favourite though, really flavoursome. The rice is marketted as "A full flavoured tasty alternative to chips"...bit odd as i'm sure thats not why most people eat this! The packet s blue as in the pic but the writing on mine is slightly different, it still shows a bowl of rice (with ... Read the complete review

Some days I really struggle when it comes to thinking what I want for my tea. As I do a weekly shop I try to plan ahead, not that it always works but some days I find myself eating jacket potato or chips for a few days in a row. I really like these products but sometimes it feels like a potato overload! As I eat a lot of fish or chicken breast I often accompany them with a potato option of some description or salad however when I recently popped into my friends recently on my way home from work I saw some rice bubbling away on her hob, after asking what it was she told me it was Batchelors Savoury Rice! As I am sure many of you will now have read, I do a ... Read the complete review
