Advantages: Great taste, not too overpowering, great price.

Disadvantages: None

I am always on the lookout for something that is quick, simple and cheap for my lunches during the week as I'm eating alone and don't want to waste time slaving over a stove and leave myself with lots of washing up.

I saw this Batchelors Savoury Rice in my local Iceland recently and as it was at a bargain price I picked up three and threw them in to my trolley.

The packet is easy to open and inside is dried rice, peas, carrots, peppers and beans. I am not the best vegetable eater at any time so I want something that is small and barely noticeable (i.e covered with a taste!) so that I can help get some nutrients in my diet.

The rice is very easy to cook it's around 15 minutes either on the hob or in the microwave. I made mine in the microwave and would recommend making sure you stir it halfway through and maybe just before the final two minutes or so to make sure that the rice/veg are evenly cooked and don't go all congealed and horrible.

Once cooked I placed on a plate with a couple of sausages that I had cooked the night before and chopped up and set about mixing the whole thing together.

The rice has a lovely taste to it, it's not too spicy or overpowering and is just right with the spicy sausages that I had cooked. I thought I would need to add some seasoning to it as I normally do with this kind of rice but found that this wasn't the case.

There was just enough rice in the 120g packet to keep me full until my other half arrived home and we cooked tea together. I quite often find that the foods I'm eating for lunch recently make me ravenous about 4pm so this was a great improvement!

There are 436 calories and 2g fat per 120g packet and this is pretty high in salt at 2.6g but as the occasional lunchtime meal or side with your main meal this isn't too bad.

To buy this product separately is around 60p per packet but I recently picked up three packets for £1.00 from Iceland and was very impressed with this deal. If it is still on when I return in a weeks time then I'll definitely pick up some more.

I will rate this product 4/5 as it's a little high in salt for my liking (not that you can tell this on taste alone) and I always try to watch my salt intake.

I would definitely recommend this rice, it's flavoursome without being overpowering as is great alone or as part of a main meal.

Summary: I would definitely recommend this as a snack or part of a main meal.
