Advantages: Cheap, tasty, filling

Disadvantages: 15 minutes may be too long, too much there

Bachelor's pasta and sauce is something generally always found in our cupboards, its a quick and easy option for a meal that is still full on in taste as well.

The product is different flavours of pasta in sauce, ready made so that you don't need to do much preparation other than heating it up! You can get it in these flavours: Chicken & Mushroom, Cheese, Leek & Ham, Macaroni Cheese, Mild Cheese & Broccoli, Tomato & Herb and Chicken & Roasted Garlic. Every now and then they bring out a limited edition flavour, a while ago they had an Italian range including carbonora and Bolognese flavours. I haven't tried every flavour, but I would say that I definitely recommend the mild cheese and broccoli flavour!

The cooking time is around 15 minutes, this may seem a lot for a ready meal but its minimal effort and you can be doing something else at the same time! You bring around 300ml of water, 150ml of milk and a knob of butter to the boil before adding the contents of the packet to pan and letting it simmer for 8-10 minutes on a medium heat. I sometimes find around 12-14 minutes is best though, there still seems to be way too much sauce when you follow the recommended cooking time! You might not like the fact that you have to stand by this, and keep stirring every so often though.

The packet suggests that it serves one as a snack and two as part of a main meal. I decided this would mean it would be fine for me to have as my lunch, by itself. However, there was enough for at least two people there and I didn't end up eating it all!

When its made up according the to the instructions, there are around 450 calories in the packet which seems like quite a bit. You could make it healthy by splitting between 2 and adding some salad or brown bread.
It tastes very good for a ready meal, the sauces are generally very thick, rich and creamy and the pasta is soft and tender.

One of the main good points about this is the price - they are normally around the 80p mark and in some places you can get them even cheaper, if they are on offer then we normally stock up as they have a very long shelf life.

Summary: Quick pasta that wont break the bank

You can't beat the chicken and mushroom flavour. I add some steamed brocolli so I can pretend it's a healthy meal!
