Advantages: quick and easy to cook, fairly cheap, tasty

Disadvantages: not the healthiest of foods, smell whilst cooking

Super noodles are one of those foods that people generally think of as a food for students or as the sort of thing you would take camping. It could be said that Pot Noodle is Super noodles biggest rival but personally I don?t think they can be compared; Super Noodles win every time for me and their not just a snack food either.
I?m not recommending that these become the mainstay of your diet (although I can think of plenty of cases, mainly students, where this is close to the truth) but for anyone whose culinary skills are somewhat limited Super Noodles are a perfect solution!

The noodles are great as a quick snack because they cook very quickly but they can also be served as part of a main meal. I?m not the World?s greatest cook by any means but I do like to experiment in the kitchen to see what I can create. Though in some cases this ends in disaster, I usually manage to create a tasty meal but it can be very time consuming. When I?m short of time that?s when Super Noodles come in. Generally I?m not a big fan of ready meals and don?t tend to buy them very often but I do keep a stock of Super noodles for times when I simply don?t have the time to create a meal from scratch. When I?m in a hurry I cut up lots of vegetables into small pieces, cook them and then stir them into the Super Noodles. Delicious and nutritious!

Batchelor?s Super Noodles come in blue foil packaging with the Batchelor?s logo and a picture of the Super Noodles on the front. Inside this packet you find the noodles and a sachet of flavouring depending on which flavour of noodles you have purchases. The instructions for cooking them are found on the back and couldn?t be simpler you simply place the noodle and 300ml of water in a pan on the hob, add the contents of the flavouring sachet and simmer for about 5
minutes. They can also be cooked in the microwave but I never cook them this way personally.

They come in many flavours and they introduce new ones all the time but here is a selection of the flavours available:

- Chicken
- Mushroom
- Thai curry
- Mild curry
- Southern fried chicken
- Barbecue beef
- Bacon
- Chinese chow mein
- Spicy salsa
- Sweet & sour

My personal favourite is the mushroom one. As with most flavourings this one doesn?t taste very much like mushroom but it makes a pretty good attempt. When I use Super noodles as part of a main meal I add my own mushrooms which improve the likeness in flavour. Eaten alone the mushroom noodles still taste nice but sadly they are not the healthiest of foods.

The nutritional information varies depending on which flavour you buy I find that the calorie content tends to be about 480 calories per 100g and about 20g of fat but this does vary. As a snack you can see that these are not exactly a dieter?s food but it?s not bad as a main meal.

I wouldn?t recommend that you make Super Noodles a regular part of your diet but they are far healthier than food bought from fast food outlets and personally I would rather eat these when I?m in a hurry than something than anything from McDonald?s. If you find yourself short of time to create healthy meals frequently then try preparing some of your own healthy dishes and freezing them so you can simply heat them up again which will be better for you than eating packet foods. That said Super Noodles do serve a very useful purpose. They are especially useful for happy campers as they cook very quickly and are also very filling. Super noodles aren?t particularly attractive food especially when you eat them alone and I?m not keen on the smell of the mu
shroom ones when they?re cooking but don?t be deceived by the smell or appearance they are surprisingly tasty.

You can buy Super Noodles in 100g packets for about 40p and 200g packets for about 70p. Overall they make a tasty snack but only for times when you?re feeling very hungry as they are deceptively filling but are also versatile in cooking a main meal. Try them with croutons or on toast with vegetables for a quick meal. As a bonus all flavours of Super Noodles are suitable for vegetarians unlike Pot Noodles.

Not super healthy but super in many other ways, I think these noodles deserve full marks!
