Advantages: Taste!
Disadvantages: Calorie/Nutrition and expense
Ben and Jerrys, I must admit I was only made aware of these people during my 2nd year at university just last year, I had always thought that Hagen Daz and normal ice cream from the freezer such as vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and occasionally mint was the epitomy of ice cream, I was however wrong of course and have since become mildly addicted to one Ben and Jerrys, being in the UK getting limited flavours isn't great, I hear Ben and Jerrys actually do an enormous range of flavours to try, myself, I have only tried 3/4.
The very first I tried was the critically acclaimed (by my friends) Cookie Dough ice cream, vanilla ice cream with bits of cookie dough in, now I was unsure of this to begin with but I never realised how nice the cookie dough bits would actually be, the ince cream itself is also delicious but every time we eat it it's always a race between me and my girlfriend to reach the cooke dough bits first, this was my first adventure into the Ben and Jerrys range, it was a good start.
The next I tried was the Phish Food, this was my girlfriends choice, chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, caramel and chocolate fish, the result was a rather tasty concoction of foods together to make a tasty ice cream, although not as good as the Cookie Dough, certainly of a higher quality than normal plain ice cream and the fish (or phish) are delicious as is the marshmallow.
My final ice cream I have tried, I tried just a couple of days ago, Halk Baked, I was unsure of it based on the name but having seen what was in it I was crazy for thinking this, it's not just cookie dough, it's not just chocolate AND Vanilla ice cream, it's not just fudge brownie pieces...but it's all of those things rolled into one! The fudge is gorgeous, as we have discovered the cookie dough is just brilliant and the mixture of ice creams creates what is, for me at least, so far the best Ben and Jerrys ice cream, I admit it's alot to take in and i'd rather have the cookie dough ice cream for a general occasion, but every now and then Half Baked will win all the time.
The next on my list to try, and in fact is arriving tommorow with my shopping, it the baked alaska, white chocolate with marshmallow in a vanilla ice cream, this was my choice and hopefully it is the right one, if not I may have to go back to cookie dough and halk baked.
Unfortunatly, as with all ice cream, especially ben and jerrys however, the nutrition value of such procude isn't brilliant, there are light choices for 3/4 of the ice creams although I am yet to see them in any store, blockbuster or cinema, they seem to be hidden somewhere. Lets just say I wouldn't try to eat a whole tub of this stuff in a day, your body nor teeth would be very happy with you...although your stomach may be. Another major problem is the price, £3.99 for a 500ml tub, which for my and my girlfriend at least only lasts 2 nights, you could get 4 tubs of plain ice cream for that, ultimatley you're paying for brilliant taste but horrible calories and fat, is that worth £3.99.
Overall, a revolutionary ice cream company, not afraid to try different things with a huge array of flavours to choose from, an endless list which will hopefully be going into my stomach in the forecoming months, brilliant ice cream, great flavours, a mix of some of the best foods out there...just don't look at the calories, fat and sugars.
Summary: Brilliant but nutritionally a no no
