Advantages: Tastes delicious!

Disadvantages: Expensive

Now I don't usually buy much ice cream, but now and then I do splash out and treat myself to some luxury ice cream if it is on offer somewhere, as it is quite expensive!

However, on a recent shopping trip to Asda, I was walking past the ice cream, and really fancied treating myself.
I don't care much for plain ice cream, and prefer the luxury ice creams with swirls and chocolate flakes, cookie pieces in etc, so my eyes were drawn to the Ben & Jerry's section!

Ben & Jerry's were founded in 1978, after old schoolfriends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield completes a $5 correspondence course in ice cream making and opened their first ice-cream shop in an old gas station in Vermont!
Sadly they were not so good at book-keeping as they were making ice cream, and were not making any money. The shop closed after only a couple of months, but they were back a year later after learning more about the financial side of things, and began selling ice cream out of Ben's camper van. Hard to imagine when you consider how huge Ben & Jerry's are today!

Anyway, back to my shopping trip..........

Reading through the vast selection available, I settled upon the Strawberry Cheesecake variety, tempted by the idea of having cheesecake (which I love) and luxury ice cream combined into one yummy tub.

Only problem was the price! The large tub containing 500ml was over £4, as the ice cream was not on offer.
As much as I really wanted to buy it, I could not justify paying that amount just for some ice cream, so feeling sorry for myself, I began to walk away.
It was then that I noticed some mini-pots of 150ml alongside the larger ones. Just the size to satisfy my craving, and priced at £1.50 I could justify paying this for a little treat for myself. Yes I know it's still expensive, but I could afford £1.50 for a treat and I wanted it!

On returning home I sat down and opened my little tub. The smell of strawberries wafted up as I removed the lid, and it looked and smelled really inviting!
The ice cream was a pale pink colour, with small pieces of stawberries and cookies swirled through it. A small handy spoon was included, and I tucked in.
It was delicious! It tasted just like strawberry cheesecake, and the ice cream was thick and creamy. The small cookie pieces were gorgeous!

This mini tub was just enough for me, I savoured every spoonful and it certainly satisfied my craving. I will definitely be buying myself more of these little treats.

A serving of 100g contains 240 calories and 7g of saturated fat. So quite a few calories for a little snack for those of you watching your weight, but it is a nice little treat now and again. I won't list all the ingredients here but this ice cream does contain 23% cream, 11% strawberries, free-range egg yolks and natural flavouring.

I am not sure if all supermarkets stock these mini tubs as my local Morrisons does not. However, they are available in Asda and Sainsbury's.
There are other flavours available, such as Cookie Dough, Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Caramel Chew Chew.

The mini tubs are ideal for a little treat now and then, and if I ever see any Ben & Jerry's ice cream on offer I will buy myself a big tub!

Summary: Ideal for a little treat.
