Advantages: Was on special offer, nice consistency.
Disadvantages: Not enough flavour
I am a big fan of ice cream and when I saw that the Ben and Jerrys range were on offer for less than half price (£1.90) in Morrisons recently I thought I was getting myself a bargain only to be dissapointed to find out that they were on special offer at asda at 2 for £3 (Just my luck).
Anyway I had already purchased three of their flavours these being Alaska, Half Baked and Caramel Chew Chew. The Caramel Chew Chew is the one that I'm going to review.
I brought this flavour with high expectations thinking that any ice cream that is usually around the £4 mark must be really good.
**The Packaging**
Ben and Jerrys ice creams are sold in a cylinder style carboard tub with a cardboard lid on the top. On the front there is obviously the brand name and the flavour. On this tub there is a caramel coloured picture with round blobs of chocolate caramel pieces on.
On the back of the tub thereis a little paragraph about the history of Ben and Jerrys, ingredients list, storage instructions and the nutritional information list.
**The taste**
The ice cream is advertised as being a caramel flavoured ice cream with a caramel swirl and chocolatey covered caramel chunks. Aswell as being an ice cream lover I also love caramel and chocolate (I've got a sweet tooth) so I thought that this would be right up my street.
As I opened the lid the ice cream tub was full to the top. I scooped some of the ice cream out but did find it extremely difficult to get it out of the pot. On first taste of this ice cream I can say that the taste is not bad but deffinitley not what I expected. You can slightly taste the caramel flavour in the ice cream but it is more like a vanilla flavour, the chocolate chunks are also a little dissapointing as the chocolate is bitter and I could not taste any caramel in them. As for the caramel swirl it is there but there really isn't enough of it to appreciate that it is there. The consistency of the ice cream is great it is super thick and creamy and melts in your mouth as it should do.
**My Opinion**
I will unfortunatley not be rushing out to buy this again whether it is on special offer or not. I found the taste a complete let down and not enough caramel flavour to it. I would advise that before eating you leave it out for a minute or so to let it soften up before trying to scoop it out. What a dissapointment!!!
Summary: Total dissapointment.

- 05/11/09 That's a shame that it didn't live up to your expectations, usually these ice creams are good although I don't think I'd be too keen on the caramel one. Phish food is amazing though. |

- 04/11/09 I love these ice-creams but i agree with the other comments about how expensive they are. I have to admit I have not tried this one.
My favourite has to be Phish Food :) |
