Up until last week I was a virgin - a Ben and Jerry's virgin that is! Although I'd read loads about how fabulous Ben and Jerry's ice cream was I faithful to my first love Bailey's Hagen Daaz. But I have strayed. And it was so marvellous that I don't even feel guilty (except about the horrific calorific content, of course!!) Ben and Jerry's, for those of you, like myself who are new to the novelty ice cream market was founded in 1978 by two friends (Ben and Jerry surprisingly enough!) in Vermont. Since it was founded it has gone on to create exciting flavoured ice creams with weird names by the bucket load - according to the website ... Read the complete review

If heaven exsits it's in a tub of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream. If hell exisits, it's when you realize the tub of Cherry Garcia is empty. Ben and Jerry's make lots of ice cream flavors, only a few of which are available here in the UK. As I found out, they rotate what is available here so there are occasions when there is no Cherry Garcia to be found, those are low days indeed. I'd stock up but then I'd just eat more. Ben and Jerry's ice cream fall into the "premium" range of ice creams. This means that it comes in a ... Read the complete review

It was one Saturday night I decided to buy this ice cream. I was having a night in watching videos and decided to have ice cream and everyone knows nothing Ben & Jerry's so I decided to buy some. I searched through flavours for ages and then came across the Cherry Garcia flavour which I definitely hadn't tried so I thought why not? It cost about £3.60 and was quite a big tub and would last a night. The tub's are always sealed with plastic around the lid so nothing leaks. I peeled this off and lifted up the lid which was kept down very well which I suppose is a good thing. The ice cream was a lilac shade, I was not sure what I expect from this ... I don't believe I've just done that, it seemed like such a good idea at the time! After a rather gorgeous dinner cooked by yours truly, I had a wonder down to the freezer and lo and behold, there it was, a tub of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia, freshly bought earlier today and still unopened. So I had a spoonful. Mmmmmmmmm, yummy. As you might have guessed from the name, Cherry Garcia involves cherries. It's a cherry flavoured ice-cream interlaced with cherry pieces and quite generous chunks of dark chocalate. I know that sounds a little bit bizarre. I've never heard of a cherry flavoured ice-cream before, let alone one ... Read the complete review

Anyone who watched the two recent Dispatches documentaries titled “Secrets of the Supermarkets” may understand why I recently vowed to reduce my weekly dependence on the big four and to try and source my food from local producers direct or in the very least a local butcher or grocer. Hence it was that I found myself last Sunday attending at a rather ungodly hour the local farmers market in Olney. As I staggered away with my bags full of corn fed chicken and vegetables covered in dirt one bag did contain a rather less healthy option, a large apple and rhubarb pie, well man cannot live by meat and vegetables alone, at least this one can’t. Now you cannot eat pie without ... Read the complete review
