Advantages: Absolutely delicious
Disadvantages: Unsurprisingly, very unhealthy
We all know it's not very good for us, but we all love it anyway! Ben and Jerry's is probably the best ice cream you can get on the market (and the most expensive, unsurprisingly), and the astounding variety of flavours they have is extremely impressive, from Chocolate Fudge, to Phish Food (not as strange as it sounds, I assure you), to perhaps my personal favourite - Cookie Dough.
Cookie Dough is basically regularly vanilla ice cream that's been loaded with delicious chunks of cookie dough, and a healthy blastering of chocolate too! Strange though it may sound, it's a glorious (and gloriously unhealthy) mix that's been a huge hit with everyone I know that's tried it, and whilst to be absolutely avoided if you're dieting, it's otherwise a yummy dessert as long as treated as something to be had in moderation, and not inhaled like there's no tomorrow!
It's not the most conventional thing to put in an ice cream, but those creative guys at Ben and Jerry's are confectionery geniuses, and although it is expensive, I will shell out to treat myself occasionally when I have the spare funds. There's a nice dichotomy between the soft ice cream and cookie dough, and the hard, crunchy chocolate chunks that is rather delightful in your mouth. If you love your ice cream and you haven't tried this, you need to, NOW!
At £3.88 for a 500ml tub, they are VERY expensive, and so I don't buy them too often, but they're great if you're wanting to celebrate something and therefore shell out a bit more, of if you're just feeling a tad (read as: a lot) indulgent. Of course, it's worth considering that a 500ml tub has about 1400 calories in it, and a shocking 70g of fat, which in itself accounts for your entire recommended daily allowance of fat! I don't even want to know how much saturated fat is in the things!
Summary: SO bad for you, but SO tasty!

- 02/09/09 One day I will just eat an entire tub of B&J in lieu of proper food for a day.
This used to be my favourite until Cheesecake Brownie came along. Ooh, and the tubs were £1.99 in Tesco recently (? still are) - bargain! |
