I'm really not a big ice cream eater, but last week when I noticed some small 'cinema sized' pots in Tesco at just £1.25 each I just couldn't stop myself popping a pot into the trolley to enjoy next time I fancied ice cream. That time was today and I must admit I enjoyed my Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream very much indeed and actually almost sobbed when I realised I was coming to the end of it!

One thing I will say is that if I were you I'd take it out of the freezer for a while before eating it as this ice cream is very hard initially, and while you may enjoy your ice cream like that I do find it much more pleasant once it starts softening up a little.

The flavour of this particular Ben & Jerry's product is absolutely delicious. The vanilla ice cream itself is thick and creamy, it has that wonderfully sweet vanilla flavour that only a high quality ice cream has but mixed in with this are lots and lots of fairly large chunks of uncooked cookie dough (hence the name, keep up folks) and a few thickish flakes of chocolate.

Personally, and you might think it sacrilege, I find the chocolate pieces are neither here nor there. There aren't really enough of them to either help nor hinder the ice cream as a whole and biting into one I can confirm that it's fairly nice chocolate, although I wouldn't miss it in all honesty if it had been left out of the mix.

It's the cookie dough that makes the ice cream experience for me though. It's sweet and sugary, slightly frozen of course but still wonderfully soft once the air has gotten to it a little. It compliments the ice cream perfectly, the vanilla flavour and sugary cookie dough makes it a lovely melty but chewy treat.

You can buy the normal sized tubs of this ice cream, although they are rather expensive at £3 a tub - however, I think this is reasonable for a now and again treat of Cookie Dough ice cream. I couldn't eat it too often, however tasty it is, as I think too much would be rather too sickly - eating the one small tub was plenty to satisfy my ice cream craving for some time yet!

Summary: A delicious ice cream - from someone who's not really a fan of ice cream!
