Advantages: Chocolated and fudgie brownie pieces are gorgeous
Disadvantages: Not enough fudge brownie pieces
I was in the cinema for the first time in ages the other week and noticed that they where now serving Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, now the price in the cinema was too expensive for my liking but after seeing this flavour advertised i promised myself that as soon as saw it on offer i would treat myself, and tho and behold good things come to those who wait
Appearance
The tub is the standard old fashioned cardboard used for all Haagen Dazs ice-creams. The tub is also easily recognisable due to the bold white Ben & Jerry's Logo and the Chocolate Fudge Brownie tag underneath. These are particulary highlighted agains the chocolate brown background. Another design that grabs your attention is the lumps of brownies on the cover which look absolutely mouth watering and give you a preview of what your about to experience. On the reverse the following nutritional information is provided;
Per 500ml Tub
Calories – 1040 kcal
Protein – 16 g
Carbohydrate – 124 g
Fat – 52 g
Smell & Taste
As soon as the lid is poped off a wonderfully rich chocolatey aroma floats up to greet you. As soon as this happened i launched myself right in, big mistake. The ice-cream is really thing and luscious however on immediate remove from the freezer the ice-cream is rock hard, and i barely succeded in getting a single scope before my spoon bent. After this i decided to leave it to defrost for a few minutes while making do with the single scope i had. From that frst taste i knew i was on to a winner. The chocolate is fantastic, the taste is undeniably belgian which a beautiful dark, rich taste. However even this pales into insignificance beside the brownie pieces. The pieces looks like little piece of chocolate cake and the taste is once again that of rich, dark chocolate, this time however there is a great chewy texture which only enhances the experience. The only problem with the ice-cream, and one i have encountered with numerous brands is that there is never enough pieces compared to the amount of ice cream. Just as your getting into you realise that you've already scoffed them all down and yet your left with 4/5 of the tub left with nothing but ice-cream. Grrrr i hate it when that happens. The other thing that annoys me is that before you realise it you've gone and finished the entire tub y yourself, oh well it was buy one get one free at least i still have some for later.
Value
Value is once again another problem i have with a lot of ice-creams. Now i don't care what people say i personally don't believe any tub of ice-cream is worth £3.50+. For this reason i always wait till it is on offer and judging by how often it is on offer i don't think i'm alone.
Summary: Expensive, but almost worth it, best left till on offer.

- 11/09/07 You are right it's obscenely expensive - better for the waistline though! Chunky monkey is the best! :-) |
