Advantages: tastes amazing
Disadvantages: calories and price
There's nothing to beat ice-cream on a warm sunny day - or any other day of the year, for that matter! As I browsed the aisles of Somerfield the other day, I noticed the Ben and Jerry's ice cream was on special offer. I looked into by basket which was (for a change) full of fruit and veg, and decided that really if I bought myself a tub of chocolate fudge brownie flavour, it wouldn't matter because I'd be evening things out. The calories I was saving with the veg, I could make up with the ice-cream - I wouldn't lose weight, but I wouldn't put any on either, so no harm done!
The ice cream comes in a brown cardboard tub and when you remove the lid, you will see that the ice-cream is packed in right up to the top.
The ice cream itself is a very dark brown colour and although it contains lots of chunks of chocolate brownie, because the ice cream is such a similar colour to the brownie, it can be difficult to tell what's brownie and what's ice cream!
The ice cream is incredibly thick and has a rich yet smooth chocolatey flavour. Although I love chocolate, I've never been a huge fan of chocolate ice cream as I've often found it to have quite a sickly, artificial flavour, but this really does taste like chocolate, and despite being incredibly rich and creamy manages to be not at all sickly.
The brownie pieces are very moist and rich, and melt in your mouth - and let's face it, there's no better combination than cake and ice-cream! The overall taste is chocolatey, rich, creamy, decadent and extremely yummy!
OK, so I admit it isn't the healthiest dessert ever, but it is the best ice-cream I've come across and as a treat now and then it's fantastic
Like I said, I purchased mine when on special offer at just £3 for a 415g/500ml tub, but usually Somerfield charge around £4.20 for it. The price will vary depending on where you shop, but when you consider I can go to somewhere like Iceland and get a litre tub of ice cream in a variety of flavours for around £1.50 it does seem expensive. Still, you really do get what you pay for here, and it is extremely good quality, just a little pricey for everyday.
Nutritional Info (per 100ml):
220 calories
4g protein
27g carbs
11g fat (not as bad as I was expecting)
Overall, a lovely ice-cream to have as a treat now and then. If you're a chocolate lover and you haven't tried it yet, I'd suggest you get down the supermarket sharpish!
Summary: Yummy as a treat now and again
