Advantages: Tastes amazing
Disadvantages: High in cals
This week I lost two pound on the diet because I had worked extra hard at being really good. Last night was 'munchies' night so after a huge Chinese takeaway, I was craving some ice cream. My hubby is such a kind man that he went all the way down to our local Sainsbury's and bought me back a tub of Ben and Jerry's. After reading a review of the chunky monkey flavour on dooyoo, I was very keen to try it even though my usual pick would be chocolate fudge brownie.
What is it?
The ice cream consists of a very creamy banana ice cream with dark chocolate and walnuts scattered throughout.
The look.
When I peeled back the lid, I was met with a very pale, yellow ice cream and I could make out some brown walnuts and there were also a few dark brown bits of chocolate dotted around.
The smell
I took a big whiff of the ice cream even though everything in me wanted to skip that part and get on with the eating. I could definitely smell the banana but it wasn't overwhelming. I would describe it as being quite subtle but unmistakably banana.
The taste and texture.
When I took my first spoonful the ice cream was quite hard as I hadn't given it time to melt. It was very creamy and I could tell that it was a high quality ice cream. The banana was exactly how I described it in the smell section; not overwhelming but subtle. I liked this because there was just enough of the banana taste that didn't make it too sickly.
The dark chocolate pieces reminded me of the Phish food variety in that they were shaped pieces but instead of being shaped like fish, they were like banana's. I feel in love with these straight away as dark chocolate is my favourite and the fact that the ice cream had made it hard and cold was even better. They were quite big so it wasn't like I chewing on nothing. The walnuts were also a good size and had a good bit of 'bite' to them.
Verdict
All the ingredients' made for an excellent and enjoyable ice cream which complimented each other really well. Surprisingly I couldn't eat the whole pot in one sitting as I found it quite sickly after a while which is weird because I have no problems finishing a chocolate fudge brownie pot.
I would definitely buy this again but I wouldn't say it was my favourite variety.
If you like the sound of it then it will cost you £3.99 for a small pot but it's definately worth the extra cost as it's such a high quality ice cream.
Summary: One of the good ones
