Advantages: Chocolate, coffee, ice cream
Disadvantages: Yeh, right!
From Russia with buzz is appropriately named as the ice cream embodies Ian Fleming's alluring spy; it is rich, dark and mysterious and thrills to the core. THE ADDICTION Here on dooyoo numerous dooyooers have confessed to being a chocolate addict in their comments to chocolate ice cream reviews. Very brave of them and they are not alone. Having discovered that there are others afflicted by this addiction has made me begin to think that others probably suffer from another similar illness: caffeine addiction. Stand up and be counted now if you are among the caffeine addicts. Do your eyelids not rise above half-mast prior to your second cup of coffee? Do you threaten divorce in the morning when your system is empty, only to promise wedding bells and babies after a large mug of espresso? It is common knowledge that most household accidents occur in the kitchen. This is, of course, due to the fact that addicts cold turkeying from lack of caffeine are often to be found in the kitchen and weak and mal-coordinated from the withdrawal from the drug are more prone to knocking over things (if the definition of 'knocking over' includes throwing an empty coffee jar across the room). If you recognise these symptoms in yourself, you are also a caffeine addict. In this case, this ice cream is for you. This ice cream is also for chocolate addicts. If you are addicted to both substances this product is the answer to your prayers! THE ICE CREAM The ice cream consists of dark coffee flavour and coffee liqueur flavour ice creams swirled together. The colour results in a pale beige, dotted with dark flecks of broken chocolate. Within the ice cream lurk lumps of espresso chocolate chunks; dark chocolate pieces infused with the taste of espresso coffee. The soft ice cream melts in the mouth to leave the shavings of chocolate and coffee and once these have melted the solid chocolate pieces remain.
Due to the granular nature of the coffee crumbs the ice cream, while soft, cannot be described as smooth and to some ice cream connoisseurs this may be off-putting. However, to fans of the Ben and Jerry's style of big, brash ice creams with chunky ingredients, the ensemble is a concoction to die for. INGREDIENT INFORMATION Icecreamophiles will be glad to hear that the ice cream is made up of 30.31% cream. The coffee flavour is strong and the product contains 10.84% espresso chocolatey chunks. From these statistics you will quickly realise that this is not the type of ice cream where the maker have been stingy. You will never utter the words 'I can't find any chocolatey chunks' while eating this little beauty. Coffee, chocolate, cream. The three Cs. That is all you really need to know. (Forget about the emulsifiers, stabilisers and flavourings, just recite 'coffee, chocolate, cream' as you break the icy surface with your spoon and lie back and enjoy a taste of an addict's nirvana. OTHER INFO The tub is 500 ml in size and costs £3.79. There is currently an offer at Tesco of two tubs for only £5. Website: www.benjerry.co.uk There is currently an offer allowing you to send off for a giant ice cream spade scoop - save up your receipts and check their website for details.
