Advantages: ETHICAL COMPANY...

Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS...

Nearly in raptures my daughter's grubby little paw extended quickly into Morrison's freezer compartment where all their iced desserts and frozen goodies are kept...

With lots of "Ooohs" and "Ahhhs" she pulled out her expensive treasure of 'Ben & Jerry's Half baked Ice Cream' and gazed at me beseechingly.

At £3.99 for a tub with only 500ml of ice cream within, I was not impressed but 'Pester Power' and a deep abiding need for peace won the day once more and my only offspring got her way yet again *Sigh*.

Laura's excuse for revering this particular brand is how ethical the company is - rearing free range cows and paying their farmers premium prices for their dairy produce childhood friends Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield have ended up developing a world renowned iced indulgence.

Personally I feel the exorbitant price for this foodstuff is not justified but their range is on offer at half price (£1.90) at Morrison' at the moment, making it a more affordable luxury.

The reason my daughter was so giddy with glee was that two of her favourite flavours had been combined into one cardboard pot - namely 'A crazy concoction of chocolate ice cream & vanilla ice cream mixed with fudge brownies & chunks of chocolate chip coolie dough'.
Packaged in a round recyclable tub, this mixture of light and dark ice creams along with sponge cake and raw cookie dough appealed greatly to Laura and of course it would have been rude for me not to have a try, folks!

The tub itself is eye-catching in the freezers within the store, colourful and decorated with illustrations of raw choc chip cookie dough and a dish with the mixture in it; it strikes me as quite an adult product the way it is marketed...

Reading the blurb on the back, it explains the guys' thoughts on combining two of their premium flavours for fans of both and it does work really, really well on the taste test.

I would say the predominant colour and flavour is the rich chocolate ice cream, a deep brown in colour with swirls of a nice cream vanilla shade thrown in there as light relief.

Hunting for those precious fudge brownie pieces I was like a wild boar after truffles and I wasn't disappointed when I happened upon one.
Substantial in both size and texture the brownie chunk was full of flavour and moist despite being deep frozen. I do love the uncooked cookie dough as well as the brownie so enjoyed these additions more than the ice cream itself.

Chewy and cloying to the top of the palate I loved the almost white cookie dough mixture, the fudge brownies however being the real winner with their lush chocolate essence and dense consistency.

No-one can make fudge brownies the way the Americans can in my humble opinion, yum!

Made with 28% cream and butter the light ice cream was tasty and refreshing while the chocolate played with my tempted taste buds a treat!

For me in the four flavours I've tried this is the best combination and therefore value for money; there is enough to hold the consumer's interest and it is an incredibly satisfying experience to munch through solids as well as a smooth and delicious two-toned iced dessert.

Because I unfortunately paid full price for it I'm going to deduct a star.

Whilst admiring the company's ethics (for more info visit www.ben&jerrys.co.uk) I still think at four pound a pop it is dear for what it is, albeit a great combination this one is.
