Advantages: Yummy in small quantities
Disadvantages: It may leave you feeling quite ill
I have never really been a fan of Ben and Jerry's after tasting their Dublin Mudslide and like to think of myself as more of a Haagen Daz kinda gal.
But coming up to University, the union was hosting a Ben and Jerry's promotion night so the girls and myself thought we'd have our own ice-cream evening. I opted for Ben and Jerry's Phish Food as my companion for the evening and as we all settled down to watch a movie I opened my tub and dug in.
My first impressions were, 'Yeah this is good. Lots of chocolate what more could a girl ask for.' But as the level of ice-cream in the tub crop, another thought crossed my mind - I was feeling sick.
Now I am a girl who likes her chocolate and all things sweet. I live on the stuff so I think I am tough enough to handle a pretty big dose of chocolate. But let me tell you this ice-cream knocked me for six, I was struggling it was just far too rich and I could not finish it.
So my comments well...
In small doses I think this ice-cream could be enjoyable. It's chocolate, with a bit of marshmallow and small pieces of chocolate fish mixed into it. Sounds tastey. Was very creamy.
However I found it far too rich and almost a little artificial in taste - for the price! Ben and Jerry's is not cheap, tubs cost around £3.50 in the supermarket sometimes more so you expect a little value for money when you splash out that much.
I am sure that the Phish Food experience will be different for everyone, but for me it was a little too sweet for my liking and I would not be inclined to buy this product again. You need a hell of a sweet tooth to get through a tub of this stuff.
Summary: Rich and creamy... maybe a little too rich
