Advantages: Luxury ice cream that tastes delicious

Disadvantages: Expensive when not on promotion.

Just lately I have been trying out a few flavours of my favourite ice cream - Ben & Jerry's.

This has been possible because all varieties of Ben & Jerry's ice cream has been on offer at Morrisons for the last few weeks, making it more affordable, so I have been on a bit of a mission of late, but sadly the promotion is coming to an end soon!

All tubs are still available priced at only £1.90, which is half the usual price for a 500ml tub. I hardly ever buy it at it's full price as I cannot really justify paying that for ice cream, so I have to limit it to special occasions or buy a mini tub.

So these past few weeks I've been very happy as I have stocked up on Ben & Jerry's, which is currently occupying a drawer in my freezer!

Phish food is a flavour I initially did not think I would like because I have never been a fan of chocolate ice cream. This is probably due to many years ago I remember having neopolitan ice cream and not liking the chocolate part as it tasted too strongly of cocoa.

However, I decided to try Phish Food, drawn in by the description and the brightly coloured appealing packaging that Ben & Jerry's design so well.
Phish Food is described as 'Chocolate ice cream with marshmallow, caramel swirls and fish shaped chocolatey chunks.'

The name 'Phish' came about as Ben & Jerry's suggested to the band Phish that they celebrate their shared Vermont roots with a Phish flavour.

It has since became the UK's best seller.

Opening the cardboard tub, the ice cream was very hard, so I let it stand for a couple of minutes. It has a very thick consistency, and looked very tempting with the marshmallow and caramel clearly visible and swirled through the chocolate ice cream.

It tastes very chocolatey, totally different to the other cocoa-powder tasting ice cream I have had before. The ice cream is both thick and smooth in consistency and it actually tastes like chocolate and not just cocoa powder! The marshmallow and caramel taste delicious and compliment it perfectly.
Oh and there are plenty of cute little chocolate fish hidden in the ice cream too, which children (and probably adults too!) will love to find.

More than half a tub is made of dairy cream and milk from Ben & Jerry's 'Happy Cows' and this makes for a very smooth and creamy ice cream. They also use free range eggs from their 'Contented Chickens.'
The welfare of both the cows and chickens are very important to Ben & Jerry's who also support many environmental issues.

Cocoa powder, coconut oil, sugar and natural flavourings, stabilisers and emulsifier make up the rest of the ingredients. There are also traces of alcohol.

A serving of 100g will give you 260 calories and 13g of fat, of which 8.5g is saturated. So maybe it is not advisable to eat the whole tub in one sitting if you are watching your weight, but beware it is very difficult to stop eating this once you start.
Maybe it is a good thing that the promotion at Morrisons is coming to an end soon before my waistline expands too much!

Overall Phish Food is much nicer that I thought it would be, and is up there with my other favourite flavours - Baked Alaska and Strawberry Cheesecake. It appeals to both adults and children alike, with the addition of the chocolate fish making it 'fun' to eat.

If you are thinking of buying some while it is on offer at only £1.90, then I suggest you hurry along to your local Morrisons as the offer ends soon!

Summary: Luxury and fun to eat ice cream.

I think if B&J were so concerned about cows and chickens then they'd make a vegan ice-cream!!
