Advantages: The chocolate ice cream is very nice and the packaging is eye catching!

Disadvantages: To expensive - and you can read the review for the rest of my complaints :((

Safeway supermarket that is:

I decided to buy this instead of my usual calorific ice cream treat because Safeway was out of my favourite Haagen Dazs flavour. (How dare they, sob)!!

There I was rummaging through the frozen depths of the freezer in desperate hope of finding some Pralines and Cream but to now avail. So I had to remove myself from the chilly fridge before my arms became ice lollies. It was time for a rethink. No way was I coming out of that shop without something scrumptious ? oooohhhh no!

I spotted the Ben & Jerry's selection, so as I'd not tried this I decided to give it a whirl.

Price

Around the same price as Haagen Dazs £3.50 ish for 500ml but you can buy it for £3.27 in your local Tesco or Asda (if you have one). I find this a bit on the steep side for the amount you actually get. Like I said in my last ice-cream op, you can get a litre of Yorkshire Dales ice cream for a fraction of the price and its rather good but I'm bored with the flavours hence the review on this phishy little number!!

Packaging

Really rather nice actually!
The colour of the tub is a lovely deep purple shade and has the Ben & Jerry's logo on the front and lid, also the name of the product (obviously) and a short description of what your taste buds are in store for. On the back of the tub it lists the ingredients and storage instructions in three languages. English French and I'm not to sure of the third.
In comparison to other ice-cream products, this is a hit in the visual taste bud department (well they do say you eat with your eye's first don't they).

Availability

Well you can get this from most supermarkets (excluding my local Coop). You can also buy this from Blockbuster video store but you will pay dearly for the treat! I think its almost a fiver from there which is extortionate I'm sure you'll ag
ree.

Tastiness & My Verdict

Well the description on the front of the tub informed me that it's a chocolate (always a good thing) flavoured ice cream with marshmallow, caramel and chocolate chunks. Sound's scrumptious doesn't it!

Well you won't be totally surprised when I tell you that the chocolate ice cream is fabulous.

Its very rich and chewy, just like an expensive ice-cream should be.
The marshmallowy bit was a disappointment for me though as I expected it to be in little pieces or chunks but instead there was just smears of it running through the ice cream. Not very noticeable and I could hardly taste it at all!!

The caramel is good to. I suspect this is what makes the chocolate ice cream so chewy. Lovely and sweet and probably really fattening! Not that I was thinking along those lines when I was hoying in down my neck, lol.

The chocolate chunks or phishy pieces where a bit of a disappointment to. I was expecting a higher quality of chocolate but these little pieces seemed to be on the waxy side to me. Forgive me if I'm being picky but I paid good money for this and I'm fussy about my chocolate. There was quite a bit of this stuff added to the tub too so it took me ages to Phish them out if you'll pardon the pun!

Well if I said I'd buy this again I'd be a liar. I loved the ice cream and the caramel but there wasn't enough marshmallow in this for my liking and the chocolatey chunks where waxy and seemed to crumble in my mouth so it wasn't an oral treat but a bit of chore picking them out.

I'd give this *** out of 5 stars.

Firstly because of the price and secondly because of the disappointing bits listed above. Sorry if you disagree but give me my Pralines and Cream any day or just a really good chocolate ice cream.

I'll still say I would recommend you try it for yourself as everybody
has different tastes and I'd hate to put anyone off as this might turn out to be your favourite flavour ever!!

I'm not going to list the ingredients as I'm sure you'll have gathered that this is indeed a bit on the naughty side and is full of sugar and fat. Not worth the calorie intake in my opinion!

Extra Info

Ben & Jerry's have their own website which you might want to check out. I have done so and its looks like it would be fun for kids as there's a game zone and competitions. The address is www.benjerry.co.uk.

On a serious note - this product is made in a factory which shares its equipment with peanut products and other tree nuts so if you have a nut allergy, don't buy this.

The flavour sounds tempting, but my nut allergy sadly means I'll never get to try this out. At least I'm not missing out on much according to your op!:)

I still prefer haagen dazs, although we charge a lot more for it in our store - £4.09

I think I'd find it a little sickly, but then again, I might not...

Sue :)
