Advantages: ITS CHOCOLATE . . .

Disadvantages: Excuse me . . . . . ITS CHOCOLATE .

The reason I bought these was because they were being offered at Asda with the added incentive of money being given to the Breast Cancer Charity. However I have to be honest that was not the only reason, the other one being IT'S CHOCOLATE YUM...I paid £3.79 for 200g in Asda. However having had a look around the net I have come up with a variety of prices from £1.79 for 30g and £1.61 for 100g to £5.49 for 340g...my suggestion is shop around.

These chocolates come in an attractive box. Sort of a metallic orangey-bronze colour with a pink ribbon and bow printed on the side and front. Which makes them nice to give as a present. The Bendicks logo is on a green flash and is written in gold along with the word GORGEOUS written in script across the front "An irresistible selection of gorgeous chocolates." and on one of the sides is the crest and "By Appointment to the Queen" and also the manufacturers' guarantee with Bendicks (Mayfair) Ltd and their address, along with the web address of www.bendicks.co.uk. On the reverse of the box is the ingredients list which is huge and which I will not be listing individually however there is a warning Contains...Milk, Nuts, Soya, Egg, not suitable for people with nut allergies…also…Store in a cool dry place and a best before date. Nutritional values will scare the pants off you so I'm not going to list them. Suffice it to say these are for special occasions only...and I am only eating them for the sake of this review (its a dirty job but someone has to do it).

The chocolates...........
These are individually wrapped sweetie style in different coloured foil wrappers 5 different chocs in 5 different colours.

Choc Number 1... Dark Gold wrapper with "Gorgeous" in brown on the front...
Bendicks description states 'A milk and white chocolate with a rich chocolatey centre'.

My description…. Very attractive because of the marbled effect of milk and white chocolate, the inside is very, very creamy and mixes well with the strong milk chocolate taste. An excellent combination of creamy chocolate flavours makes it hard to tell where the outside and inside start and end.

Choc Number 2.... Metallic pink wrapper with "Gorgeous" in gold on the front...
Bendicks description… 'A milk chocolate with a hazelnut praline centre'.

My description.... milk chocolate oblong block about an inch in length, just the right size for the mouth, quite a thick layer of milk chocolate. A definite strong taste of hazelnut, not too soft, quite a firm centre, also a milk chocolate colour. It blends together beautifully with the creamy milk chocolate covering.

Choc Number 3.... Dark brown wrapper with "Gorgeous" in gold on the front... Bendicks description... 'A dark chocolate with a delicious truffle centre'.

My description.… This one is true dark chocolate. It always amazes me how different dark chocolate can taste depending on the make. This one, although bitter, (I don't like that word because it implies that the chocolate tastes bitter and it is anything but that) has a sharper more round taste like comparing a sweet to dry wine. This is somewhat dry but still very creamy. I have to admit this is the nicest dark chocolate I have ever tasted. The filling is similar to the dark gold wrapped one but slightly thicker with a definite truffly taste, and stronger than the one before, but beautifully matched to the dark creamy chocolate.

Choc Number 4.... A light gold wrapper with "Gorgeous" in brown on the front....
Bendicks description… 'A coffee flavoured milk and white flavoured chocolate'.

My description.... Again a marbled milk and white chocolate with no filling. It doesn't need one! As soon as you unwrap this one you are immediately greeted with a delicious smell of coffee, just like opening a pack of the finest ground coffee beans, now I know certain people among you will be saying I don't like coffee creams and it has to be said that I always leave the coffee along with the strawberry and orange creams in the box. If they were all like this I would not. It is scrumptious. No filling just coffee (and, may I add, the best coffee) flavour I have ever tasted.

Choc Number 5.....Metallic bronze wrapper with "Gorgeous" in brown on the front...
Bendicks description 'A milk chocolate with almond and honey crunchy pieces'.

My description.... I have saved this until last as it's my favourite. Creamy milk chocolate absolutely packed full with honeycomb and almond pieces, this one is SCRUMMY!! I popped this one straight into my mouth without even biting it and let it melt on my tongue. They seem to have got the little pieces of honeycomb and almond just the right size and the honeycomb seems to crackle and dissolve on your tongue. The taste is a mix of creamy chocolate and a praliney taste from the almonds but, above it all, is the crisp sugary taste of the honeycomb. Just sweet enough without being sickly… GORGEOUS!!

Bendicks has been making chocolates since 1930 so you would think they would have it right by now and I'm happy to say they most certainly have. These are to die for. I had about 30 of these little chocs in the box and they did last me quite a time, not because they were sickly, but because I really didn't want to finish them. They have a similar shape to Neapolitans but that's all. They are, in my opinion, far superior.

Summary: A really inspired chocolate selection. Absoulteley Beautiful.

I've never tried these but they sound really tasty. Ideal for a present as well.
