Advantages: Delicious tasting range of blue cheeses

Disadvantages: Not enough blue in the Bergader Blu

Bergader is a make of German cheese, hailing from Bavaria - several of the Bergader products are on offer at a supermarket near me lately. To date, I've only tried two of them, both of them came in rather commercial looking plastic packaging rather than the traditional slab of cheese look! The majority of their range, seem to be variations on blue cheese.

First up was Bergader's creamy Edelpilz, a tasty, slightly crumbly yet easily spreadable smooth blue-veined cheese with a relatively strong, slightly spicy Danish blue like taste. I definitely recommend this one, ideal in a baguette with cherry tomatoes or on wholeweat crackers!

Bergader Blu, is the other one that I tried and this one is a different kettle of fish, more similar to Bresse Bleu, it's a blue brie type cheese that has a wonderful taste that pleasantly mixes the chalkier flavour of the coat, the creaminess of the white cheese and the mouth tingling mouldiness of the blue parts.

The taste of the blue veins in Bergader's cheese is exquisite and if I do have one criticism, it would be that there's not enough blueness to the Bergader Blu! This seems to be a fairly reliable bland and is definitely worth ago, if you are a bit bored of Danish, English or French blues.

Summary: Give Bergader a go!
