Advantages: Tasty cheesy Ham treats that cook in a flash
Disadvantages: too hot to eat straight from the oven burnt mouth
These cheese Hamwiches are amazingly tasty, and cheap.
Made by the king Bernard Matthews they are like so many of his products a real treat to eat. At a very reasonable price ranging from the £1. I bought mine for on offer again of course, to around £1.79 upwards depending on shop and offers on at the time. I got mine from Farm foods I think they were having a clear out for new stock so most items that day were on special knockdown prices.
Each triangle of ham and cheese is coated with a crisp coating of breadcrumbs made to the special recipe only Bernard Matthews knows and they taste brilliant.
They come in packs of six and are packed in a plastic wrapper with all the signs that Bernard Matthews products have on them the Norfolk scenery and the big bold writing in the characteristic blue and gold. Two sandwiches on the front of the pack to signify the item neatly kept inside. The only draw back to this packaging is that sometimes it does burst open along the seam but that alone is no reason not to buy them.
The taste test
After grilling them for a few minutes on each side until golden brown I placed them on my plate getting a real aroma of ham and cheese so rich and lucious I could hardly wait to pop one into my mouth.
I served them with potato and veg but they can easily be eaten on their own or with chips or other accompaniments.
I break into the first one and get more of the lovely of cheesy hammy aroma that ouses out onto the plate cheese spilling out everywhere invading the room with the aroma, it looks smells and then the taste oh the taste is so mouthwatering and lovely I thought I was in heaven.
Be careful though they are very hot when they first come out of the grill or oven as you can cook them in the oven too, it is easy to burn your mouth on them.
You immediately taste the ham rich and delicious even though it is Turkey ham and then the strong cheese flavour comes through too melting together with the ham this combined with the rich breadcrumb mixture is really gorgeous.
I am making my mouth water writing about them.
The only draw back I can find is that you only get six to a pack so if you have a large family you would need at least two packs. Other than that what a lovely treat for a snack or teatime. Young kids would love these and I know this because my grandkids and my own children adore them too. Not just for us oldies.
They may come a little high is sugar and salt but mostly there is nothing to concern yourselves with other than some E numbers that those who have young children will worry about I suppose but I thought hey what the hey, I only live once and I felt justified in buying them for the flavour alone. To hell with cholesterol and other such issues. Go on the value and taste alone and these are truly worth the effort.
Summary: very tasty cheap easy to cook meal not too shabby if you look out when cooked
