Advantages: VERY VERY simple kids can do it themselves, only need to add water so no running out for eggs!
Disadvantages: Tasted too sweet and a bit greasy- took much longer to cool to a decent consistency.
I got this mix for my little boy as he loves baking and it looked quick and easy for him.
The mix comes in a 200g pouch that has a big banner across it saying "just add water" - this was the selling point for me.
There are 3 step by step, easy to follow instructions on the back. They are very basic - add 2 tablespoons of water, mix well, place on a baking tray and cook for 12 minutes! - It really is that simple.
The pack makes 8 cookies although they give ideas of making 4 larger ones or adding ingredients to vary the taste eg orange rind or white chocolate chips.
After 12 minutes at 190 oC The cookies were not yet cooked so I left them for a few more minutes. When I took them out of the oven they still appeared very soft but we left them to cool- the pack advises 1 minute before removing from the tray but we had to wait about 10 minutes until they had got to a firm consistency.
At this stage they looked just like the pack ( even though the chocolate chips were not as plentiful!) so my little one was very pleased with himself!
Taste test... The cookies still had a very soft, almost chewy texture, they were not crunchy at all apart from a little around the edge. Im not sure if this is how they are meant to be but it wasn't really our preferance.
They had a very sweet and slightly greasy taste but they were still edible for the sake of "Wow what a good job you've done!"
It was fun making these as it was so simple, kids can do it almost independantly and he was happy enough with the outcome.
For me, I doubt I would buy the mix again as I have used much better ones in the past that have tasted nicer but I may try one of the many other Betty Crocker products that include another 'just add water' one- chocolate fudge brownies.
Not the worst product but certainly not the best.
Available from most supermarkets priced £1.19 for 200g pack that makes 8 cookies.
NB: Not suitable for those allergic to Wheat, egg, milk and soya.
Summary: OK but I probably would never buy it again.
