Bird's Dream Topping
Advantages: Easy to whisk and quick to make up.
When my grandchildren come to stay for dinner and they have a desert after their dinner we do sometimes like to eat cream with our cake instead of custard. Makes for a nice change and I buy this cream because it is convenient to make up and eat.
It comes in a plastic packet which has a picture of some cream over some jelly in a bowl. Inside the packet it is a powder which looks similar to custard powder but a little finer. The grains of powder are white in colour and it has a slight sweet smell.
It is very quick and easy to make up into the cream, all you need to do is to measure a ¼ of a pint of cold milk into a bowl of jug and sprinkle the powder over the milk and then just whisk together for a couple of minutes using an electric hand whisk. If you don't own an electrical whisk, you can just use a fork or hand whisk and just keep on whisking it for about 3 or 4 minutes, depends how hard you whisk it using a fork but it still whisks the same in the end.
After around half a minute of whisking it begins to thicken and the longer you whisk it the more thicker it becomes. After the couple of minutes the cream is ready to serve.
The texture of the cream is really smooth and soft and tastes delicious. It is easy to spoon it over a slice of cake without dropping from the spoon because it isn't a runny consistency if you use the correct amount of milk. If you use more milk than recommended, the cream will be more runny but you may prefer a more runny consistency cream but we all like the thicker consistency when we eat this cream.
It isn't too sweet a cream and doesn't have a bland taste, just a good quality tasting cream which is nice to eat with cake. We have eaten it with jelly, mousse and lots of different varieties of bought cakes from the shops. It just gives an added look to the cake as well as some cream.
Eaten with cake the 2 taste nice together and a 36g packet can serve at least 4 of us. If more of us are eating the cream, I just use 2 packets and double the milk amount and it spreads further.
Per portion it contains 79 calories and 5.8g of fat, so not a lot of calories if you are on a diet and want to eat some cream for a treat.
We really love this cream, it is good to buy and stock in the food cupboard if you want to eat it after dinner and you have forgotten to buy some fresh cream or if you want to buy one if you don't like fresh cream very much.
I bought a pack of 3 packets in a pack for only a £1 from Asda but the usual price is just 66p per pack and so I saved some money buying 3. It is a good value priced cream and one I will always buy because my family and myself love this cream.
I rate it 5 stars.
