Advantages: Tasty and easy to cook, just bung in the oven
Disadvantages: Cooking time is a little off
Birds eye chicken peri peri chargrills are currently on offer in Asda for £1 and as I have tried some of the other flavours thought I would pick up a pack of these for the freezer for those want something tasty, healthish (just add lots of veg) and easy to cook nights.
Like the other chargrills that Birds Eye do these are relatively low in calories at 160 per breast and the fats only 8.2g but the salt content is a bit on the high side at 0.8g but if you have a balanced diet this shouldn't worry you to much.
Birds eye describes them as "Peri Peri Chicken made with marinated chunks of chicken breast meat in a spicy pepper glaze" and that along with the picture on the box really got my mouth watering. When you take these out of the box they do look like the picture (albeit that they are frozen not cooked!) which is always a pleasant suprise.
I followed the instructions on the box for cooking them for 20 minutes at
190°C or for a fan assisted oven 170°C or Gas Mark 5 but as with the other chargrills have I have tried although I have a fan assisted oven I cooked them at the 190°C as I find that the fan assisted oven doesn;t seem to be hot enough to cook these properly (well to me anyway).
After the 20 minutes out they came and the glaze had cooked around the outside but still looked a bit "runny" in the middle so in they went for another 5 mintues, another thing I have noticed with the cooking times for Birds Eye, though it could be that I'm fussy when it comes to making sure things are cooked.
After that out they came and they smelt lovely. They are a bit spicy which you would expect having the Peri Peri sauce on them but they made a slightly different version of a boring chicken tea for us and I will defiantely be buying them again to keep in the freezer when they are on offer as at £1 they are good value but at full price £1.58 (I think) it doesn't make them as attractive for me to put in my basket.
Summary: When on offer these can fill my freezer
