Advantages: Tasty, cheap, Birds eye - say no more

Disadvantages: You might not like fish

If you ever find yourself bored with simple plain old fishcakes then give these 'Birdseye Salmon Fish Cakes in Crunchy Crumb' a try.
They come in a box of four for £1.29 but if you visit your local supermarket you may just find them on special offer or buy one, get one free.

Birdseye Salmon Fish Cakes are made from minced potato, white fish and of course, Salmon. They are then wrapped in whole meal breadcrumbs and lightly spiced and then garnished with Pepper and Parsley.
Fishcakes are versatile to say the least and will accompany most main meals, they are particularly good with chips and peas / bakes beans.

Alternatively you could try making them into burgers in place of the normal beef variety, and smothered in mayonnaise, they are just as tasty.

PACKAGE:

The Fishcakes come in a blue and yellow box with the name and the Birdseye logo reading down the left hand side on a blue sea background. On the right hand side is picture of the cooked sliced open fishcakes, which look extremely tasty and is the main reason that I bought them.
The back of the box which features the cooking instructions and the ingredients is a deep yellow color and the box as a whole, is very bright and eye pleasing.

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:

To Grill:

Pre heat the grill to a MEDIUM heat and cook for 15 minutes, turning occasionally until crisp and golden brown.
********************************************** ********
To Oven Cook:

Pre heat the oven to 230oC/450oF Electric setting, Gas mark 8.
Place the Salmon Fish Cakes on a greased baking tray with upturned edges.
Cook in the hottest part of the oven (usually the top) for about 20 minutes, turning once, until crisp and golden brown.
For fan assisted ovens cooking time may need to be reduced.
********************************************** ********
To Shallow Fry:

Fry gently in a little pre heated oil over a MEDIUM heat for
about 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until crisp and golden brown. Drain and serve.
NOTE: Always ensure that the Salmon Fish Cakes are served piping hot.

TASTE AND SMELL:

Birdseye Salmon Fish Cakes are absolutely delicious, you can really taste the fresh salmon inside.
They are quite peppery, but the pepper taste is not too overpowering and compliments the Salmon nicely. I personally grilled mine and the result was a tasty, crunchy cake, which oozed with flavor.

They didn't shrink whilst cooking either as with some other supermarket brands I have tried and as a consequence, they are quite chunky and filling.
The outer Crunch Crumb was exactly that, crunchy and golden and the potato and fish inside was soft, juicy and plentiful.
There was also a fair helping of Parsley to maximize the taste of the Salmon, which also broke up the pale pinkish color inside.

The aroma is not too overwhelming and doesn't leave your kitchen smelling like the local fishmongers, in contrast, the smell is actually quite pleasant.
I made my fishcakes and put them into a bread roll spread thickly with Cream Cheese and garnished with tomato slices and lettuce, it was heaven not to put too finer point on it.

Fishcakes, as a whole will go with almost anything savory as part of main meal, they are perfect for smothering with most kinds of sauces, Ketchup, Brown sauce, barbeque sauce and especially Tartar sauce or Mayonnaise.
These are great for kids and adults to enjoy and I recommend them wholly.
If you like fish, if you like Salmon and if you like potato then I guarantee, you’re going to love these.

NUTRITION INFORMATION:

These Salmon Fish Cakes are not only tasty but they are quite healthy too.
Each cake contains just 85 Calories and 4.5g of Fat and weighs approximately 48g.
