      Potato Surprise

A Single young man naturally from time to time i buy ready meals as they are quick and easy to do and the washing up is minimal! Searching around the frozen section i came across Birds Eye 400 g Shepherds Pie, it caught my eye for two reasons firstly it was on offer and secondly Birds Eye's a reputable premium brand, something you can trust.

The packaging looked good, bright and informative, instructing the consumer it's packed with British Minced Beef, curdled with tomatoes, onions, peas and carrots in a rich gravy sauce, topped with a fluffy mash, made from real potatoes. The picture of the Shepherds Pie looked appetizing enough. Under the box, your usual plastic container with a slim film over the top to seal the contents. Sadly the size of the dish was not nearly as big as expected.

      Shepherd's pie contains ...
      9.3g fat
      4.0g saturated fats
      No "E" numbers
      13% Beef

      COOKING INSTRUCTIONS ............
You can cook the Shepherd's pie in 35 minutes from frozen in the oven at 190oc, 375oF or Gas Mark 5. Or you can microwave it on full power for 10 minutes. However i find you usually get the best results using the oven.

Having followed the instructions on the packet, i took my pie out of the oven, and sadly enough whereas the sides are slightly bubbling, and you can see patches of sauce ripping through, the middle is frozen solid? Obviously to combat this problem i broke it up with a knife, enabling it to cook faster, it was another 20 minutes before it started to thaw.

Not been able to wait any longer, i decided to eat it warmish, and the disappointment continued, about 75% of the dish was mashed potato, which was not fluffy and very tasteless! The rest of the dish tasted okay, but it lacked the amount of vegetables it suggested in the text and consisted mostly of a thick gravy. Not good enough.

I brought this on offer for £1
However it usually retails at £1.40 in most supermarkets.

      ONE TO AVOID!!
