A rare treat these days for me is any typical English desert, things like custard, jelly and trifle aren't considered normal here, and I can't rush to the shops and buy them. Fortunately the internet age allows the purchase of anything, wherever you are. We also have an "English Shop", an hour from us in case of emergencies. When my granddaughters came to stay last night they brought a friend with them and asked if she could stay as well. While I was making up the spare bed I remembered this girl is possibly the fussiest eater I have ever met so I needed to go to the supermarket to buy her something to eat as no way would she eat the Korma I'd made for myself and the girls'. If you want a something easy, simple and different for pudding or afters try a Birds Trifle. I had not made this for years. My children grew out of the "jelly and icecream" stage but when I saw this last week thought it would be nice to do it again. I learnt by the way it went so fast that you are never too old for a trifle! The Trifle costs around 99p and serves 6 with good ample servings.
