A rare treat these days for me is any typical English desert, things like custard, jelly and trifle aren't considered normal here, and I can't rush to the shops and buy them. Fortunately the internet age allows the purchase of anything, wherever you are. We also have an "English Shop", an hour from us in case of emergencies. I happen to have just finished the last in the bottom of a bowl of Bird's Strawberry flavour trifle. It was made yesterday for a party, and it got mixed reactions by it's tasters who weren't familiar with it - hence me finishing it off today. It's not ... Read the complete review

I am a huge lover of trifle and would choose my mum's over anyone else's. At the weekend I wanted to do some sort of activity with Noah and whilst I was at Sainsbury's I picked this up so we could do some hassle free cooking. The trifle has to be made up in three stages which are quite easy to do but you do need time and patience to do it. First off you have the jelly base which needs a couple of hours to 'set' in the fridge before you can move on to stage 2. The jelly is simple to make but don't forget to add the biscuits that are provided, before hand because that's one of the best parts. Stage 2 is the custard which is simple; you add ... When my granddaughters came to stay last night they brought a friend with them and asked if she could stay as well. While I was making up the spare bed I remembered this girl is possibly the fussiest eater I have ever met so I needed to go to the supermarket to buy her something to eat as no way would she eat the Korma I'd made for myself and the girls'. While I was shopping I spotted a strawberry flavour Birds trifle, I've not had one of these for years so thought I would buy one so that my younger granddaughter could help me make it. The box has not changed very much in years and is very bright and cheerful with pictures of what your finished trifle will ... Read the complete review

If you want a something easy, simple and different for pudding or afters try a Birds Trifle. I had not made this for years. My children grew out of the "jelly and icecream" stage but when I saw this last week thought it would be nice to do it again. I learnt by the way it went so fast that you are never too old for a trifle! The Trifle costs around 99p and serves 6 with good ample servings. As you have the hot custard and the cold jelly it is best to make the trifle in the order they say on the instructions. The contents of the box is custard powder, strawberry flavour jelly crystals, dream topping, ... Read the complete review

We all love trifle but only really have it as a treat when the family is altogether which usually means a 'must' at Christmas, Easter & birthdays. It's a rather fiddly, pleasant but time-consuming labour of love to make it from scratch so having a box of Birds in the cupboard means I can make a trifle in very little time & the results are always reliable. The box is exactly as shown in the picture & is very colourful so easy to spot in the shop. The one I have has a RRP of £1.39 but I only paid 69p frm Qyalitysave this week so may pop back & buy a few! Inside there are 5 sachets - - 1 containing the 6 sponge fingers ...
