Advantages: Handy for packed lunches, Kids like them

Disadvantages: Too dry

These had the word "new" all over them so I just had to try!

History
*******

Introducing Mr Forrest Mars, son of Frank (how could you do this to your son), anyway Forrest visited Spain and saw a soldier eating some chocolate covered in a shell to protect them from melting and thought wow (just guessing here), if we coat our chocolate and call them M&Ms we are on to a winner. How right he was. First sold in 1941 and a huge hit with the American soldiers in WW11 these and and all the other stuff made by Mars turn over a massive $14 billion a year, not bad.

Anyway, all this and a more about the history of M&Ms can be found at the rather wacky site; global.mms.com.

Packaging
*********

Well you cant miss them. a bright yellow pack containing 6, 24.8g bars with a rather large brown & in the centre. The word bisc and the M&Ms logs also appear along with half a picture of a biscuit and the all important word New.

On the back are no surprises. You will find your ingredients, far too many to list but beware they do contain traces of nuts, nutrition information, bar code and some information on these and other new biscuits they have made. Also you have you contact address should you have any problems. Masterfoods UK, Slough, SL1 4JX and for Ireland, Box 3856, Dublin 4.

Why did I buy them?
*******************

Because of the word New, silly!!

The bar
*******

O.K after opening the pack the biscuit bars are wrapped in the same design yellow foil. A plain and simple effect, not as jazzy as I would have expected but you dont eat the wrapper, right!

Now open and the smell is very in your face (will get to that later), this 4 inch long biscuit looks well, sickly before I start. A creamy coloured biscuit base with a layer of milk chocolate down the centre (on top, not through the biscuit), and 10 little assorted coloured M&Ms scattered on top, this is defin

ately one for the kids.

Smell
*****

As I said sickly. There is a strong smell of caramel and milk chocolate and smells to me, well just like a Twix bar but a bit more sweet.

Taste
*****

Dry, thats the first thought that comes to mind followed by wheaty. Now I have said these smell like a Twix and the biscuit and chocolate taste like Twix (no surprise as these are made by the same people) but without the goey caramel inside these would be very uninteresting to the taste buds without the M&Ms on top. The M&Ms are nice and to be honest, the only thing that make this biscuit taste better than a mouth full of straw. They are nice and crunchy on the outside and filled with a soft pleasant chocolate.

Overall taste

Biscuit base: Crunchy but very dry with a wheaty taste.
Chocolate: Smooth and sweet but mixed with the biscuit, over powers the taste and leaves the chocolate dry.
M&Ms: Nice and crunchy, with a pleasant soft chocolate centre.

Price
*****

I did say these were on special at the moment and if you pop into Tesco you can by 2 packs for £1.20. A bargain if they were nice!

Sainsburys at the moment are selling these for £0.69 per pack.

My opinion
**********

Well, my daughter Charlie love them and as I said, these really are one for the kids. They come in handy individually wrapped bars, great for the packed lunch box but far too dry for me and with 7.3g of fat and 130kcals per bar, can think of better things to eat when using up my daily sins.

Would I buy them again?

Sorry no!! M&Ms on their own or a nice biscuit with me tea but not together.

Thanks for reading.
