Advantages: Sensuously wonderful

Disadvantages: No cherry any more.

We'd had a tiff, as you do.

That evening there he was with a big bunch of flowers, a bottle of my favourite red wine and a box of Black Magic, which just proved that I was right all along! I forgave him in a way that only a woman can .... slowly.

After a couple of glasses of red wine I forgave him fully (in a way that only a woman can ... ) and the flowers were really nice too.

I then remembered the chocolates. I hadn't had Black Magic for what seemed like yonks. There were a couple of the chocs that were always my favourite so I opened the box. Mmmm the smell wafted gently, almost sensuously, as I slid off the cellophane and lifted the lid.

Such a lovely box, black with white and gold letters, the M of the Magic all wiggly and in gold. Through hazy red-wine eyes I read the small gold print, 'An intriguing collection of rich dark chocolates'. I could almost taste the cherry as I parted the black interior paper breathing in that special odour. I'd almost forgotten the pleasure of chocolate.

Then - bang! Disappointment! Where was the cherry or the montelimar? Nowhere to be seen. I snatched at the selection leaflet, nope they were both gone. I'd been eating these since I was little. Trust my boyfriend to get it all wrong and to think I'd forgiven him (twice!). The mood was gone.

The next evening, I was on my own. He was away on business (or so he said) so I sipped at a glass of wine and thought I might as well have a Black Magic.

The smell hit me again and I was transported to a land of sunshine and cocoa beans. West Africa I thought, and breathed deeply, or was it New Guinea? They smelled soooo good even if my favourites were missing.

The orange cream was still there. I bit into the end and the flavour tingled my tongue tantalisingly. I lingered over the experience not wanting it to end. I eventually allowed my tongue to push into the soft silky
fondant cream before slipping the complete chocolate between my lips. The minutest sip of wine and the flavour explosion just went on and on. Wow! Now that was good.

I was beginning to think that things like Black Magic are best enjoyed when you are on your own. Don't you just hate it when people (men?) just grab any old chocolate out of the box and stuff it into their mouth without a second thought. Where's the pleasure in that?

I looked at the leaflet and wondered what to have next. There were eleven to chose from including new ones that would be a whole new experience. Tonight was to be something special after all. Another glass of wine was called for (but I had to get it myself).

That night, I'm ashamed to say, I went through all eleven and was delighted to find there was actually a twelth which was a simple slither of plain chocolate. I have now got new favourites. My top five are:

(1) Orange Cream. Previously at number three but now top of the chocs. It's a tangy orange oil blended into silky fondant cream. I'm just a real softy.

(2) Lemon Dream. A sharper flavour than the sweet orange cream. This one is a light lemon fondant cream draped in rich dark chocolate.

(3) Hazelnut in Caramel. I prefer the softies but the caramel does it for me. The whole hazelnut is wrapped in liquid caramel.

(4) Raspeberry Roulade. Back to the sensuous light and luscious fondant cream that contrasts so well with the plain chocolate.

(5) Continental Truffle. A bit of a controversial choice perhaps but the rich chocolate truffle is mixed with french brandy and orange oil for a cosmopolitan touch.

The other flavours are: chocolate brazil, hazelnut cluster, praline truffle, caramel, toffee & mallow and my least favourite, coffee cream.

My box of Black Magic may well have re-kindled my love for chocolate, which I previously thought I had in control. I'
;m usually so disciplined, but it looks like I'm in it's spell. It's all his fault! Wait till I get my hands on him ...

But for now I still have a whole layer of chocolates to indulge myself with. I'm sure there will be two, yes two, orgasmic orange creams left. I think I'll laze in a bath first to get into the mood. No better still I'll take my Black Magic with me and candles and a bottle of red wine. Must put the answerphone on first, I don't want any interruptions ...

Gotta rush, see you all soon.
