I've never been a big fan of jams or conserves in the past - preferring to eat my toast with butter alone - however, that all changed when I discovered 'Bonne Maman's Blackcurrant Conserve' which can be purchased for £1.89 for the 370g jar from Tesco.

The jar itself is simplistic in appearance, and the non-fancy white label, combined with the red-and-white checkered lid, creates a traditional looking breakfast condiment.

Appearance & Taste

The deep red conserve has an incredibly fruity aroma, and is extremely chunky in consistency. Rather than just using finely blended fruit, as is common in many jams, this Bonne Maman variety has whole juicy blackcurrants which taste really fresh and are ultimately delicious. The overall taste is sweet, but not two sweet, and there is a slight sharpness which helps create a pleasant aftertaste.

What comes across with this particular jam is an overall freshness which is often lacking in the other jams I have tried in the past, and when taken straight from the fridge, this conserve works amazingly well as a contrast to the hot buttered toast which is (potentially) underneath it.

I would give Bonne Maman's Blackcurrant Conserve a very high recommendation, as it is the nicest jam I have ever tasted, and is made with all natural ingredients. I think the price is reasonable considering the quality, and the fact it lasts for a long time, and I will certainly be buying this particular conserve again.
