Advantages: Yummy, free-from, I can eat it!
Disadvantages: Might feel sick after eating too much of this!
Being restricted to what food I should and shouldn't eat, means a trip to the health food shop is a regular occurrence. With the local health food shop in the centre of town having closed recently, I had to walk slightly out of the town centre (which isn't far as it's a small town!) to the sole remaining health food shop in town.
The last time I was in this health food shop I picked up a tub of Booja-Booja Coconut Hullabaloo Stuff In A Tub, which I loved, so when I saw this Booja-Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate Stuff In A Tub I decided to grab a tub.
So what is this Booja-Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate Stuff In A Tub? It's actually a dairy free and sugar free version of ice cream, so both me (lactose intolerant and wheat intolerant) and diabetics can eat this stuff without worrying about any reactions!
As this is both chocolate and dairy free, I decided to go with a small tub, e.g. the 110ml tub for one person, as dairy free chocolate stuffs are usually quite bitter. Reading the back of the tub I'm told it's "The multi award-winning delicious alternative to diary ice cream: Luxuriously rich, truffley smooth, dark chocolate".
Lifting the cardboard top off the lid of the 110ml tub exposed one of those little blue spoons, so I took it out and then removed the lid.
There's no doubt about it, this is seriously dark chocolate ice cream, but while it's rich, it isn't too bitter. It is smooth, as described, and tastes truffley - I think this is due to the cashew nuts in it (not that you'd know without looking at the ingredients). I don't think you'd want much more than this 110ml as I think it would be sickly in a greater quantity.
Without seeing the packaging, I don't think you'd know this wasn't proper ice cream! What's more, it's not just dairy free and sugar free, it's also cholesterol free, soya free and organic. It is also suitable for vegans.
The ingredients listed are: Water, Agave (raw), Cashew Nuts and Cocoa Powder. Not much too it then! This seems to be quite a guilty free frozen desert, and not just for those of us on dairy free and sugar free diets.
One thing I will note is that Booja-Booja Stuff In A Tub desserts are never sold in supermarkets, as they have a commitment to the independent retail sector. This is a positive thing, but this means you won't be able to get this in your weekly shopping (unless you happen to do your full weekly shop at an independent retailer).
I paid £1.79 for this little 110ml tub, which I thought was well worth it for this treat. You can also get Booja-Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate Stuff in a 500ml tub (ideal for sharing!).
(P.S. - I'm not quite sure why Dooyoo decided to use a picture of the whole range [showing the Ginger one in the front], especially when I gave a link to the Booja Booja Hunky Punky Chocolate Stuff in a Tub!)
Summary: Lovely 'free from' ice cream!
