Advantages: Chocolate, Caramel
Disadvantages: The bit in the middle is disgusting!
Let me tell you a story about an unlucky man who was given a gift, a strange, terrible gift that made him feel rather unwell. That person was me and the gift I was given was a Cadbury Boost Guarana Bar. Let me explain how this all happened...
I was in my local petrol station the other day and I put £10 worth of petrol in my car. On paying for my petrol I was handed a Cadbury Boost Guarana Bar by the spotty lad behind the counter. "It comes free with the petrol" was the (mumbled) explanation I was given. Of course I know now that this was a big lie. In actual fact he just didn't like the look of me and so decided to make me feel sick.
Of course at the time I was unaware of this and I was quite chuffed with this "gift". I happily trotted off home, (if can you trot in a car?) and tucked into my free bar of chocolate.
The wrapper of the bar looked kinda funky, and it made me think that the contents within could be rather tasty. I mean it's a Boost bar isn't it? I like these things. Well how wrong I was, how wrong...
The first bite was ok. There was plenty of chocolate there and some caramel too, so I didn't really notice the contents of the middle of the bar. I thought to myself, well I have no idea what this Guarana stuff is, but it tastes ok!
I then took a second bite and things started to go rapidly downhill. I started to get a rather strange after taste that I didn't care too much for. At this stage though my taste buds were still a bit confused by the chocolate and caramel so foolishly I pushed on regardless...
The third bite now and I'm starting to think that all is not well with the world. I'm into the inner sanctum of the bar, the middle part where there is alot of this Guarana filling and not too much chocolate or caramel. The taste is becoming rather foul. It's a sour taste and at odds with its sweet chocolate and caramel companions surrounding it. A bit like seeing Bernard Manning standing in the middle of those lovely girls from the Corrs...
At this stage some might say "if you didn't like it, why not stop eating the thing". Well I'm a stubborn kind of guy and this thing was a free gift, so boy howdy I was gonna finish it!
OK so onto my forth bite now. It's now starting to become a war of attrition between myself and this work-of-the-devil chocolate bar. The taste of this Guarana stuff is so bad that I'm now starting to think that it is actually that bird poo Guano stuff in this bar and they just spelt it wrong on the wrapper. Still my Herculian effort is nearly at an end, only two more bites to go before this ordeal is behind me.
Bite Five, still awful but at least the end is nigh. The last bit has more chocolate and caramel so surely I can't be quite as awful. I'm not feeling too good at this stage.
The final bite! Yes there's more choc and caramel here which hides the bird poo taste! Then at last, oh happy day! The bar is finally finished!
I'm afraid that I found this chocolate bar to be awful. Even when it's free it's poor value for money. The only way I would consider eating another is if Cadbury scoop out that awful Guano filling in the middle and just give me the chocolate and the caramel.
Anyway, sorry that this review is negative but I really didn't enjoy my one and only experience of Cadbury Boost Guarana, so I feel I should warn others...
I have decided to give this product 2 stars rather than just one, because the chocolate and caramel in the bar are quite tasty. Sadly the bit in the middle is a tremendous let down!!
Thanks for reading!

- 13/10/04 Sure you didn't get a dodgy bar? I like these and to be honest I can't tell any difference between these and a normal boost. By the way, I love the way you compare the bar with Bernard Manning and the girls from the Corrs - made me laugh out loud. Good op. :O)

- 11/10/04 Oh I don't think I've tried this. If I have I liked it or I would have remembered if it was nasty!

- 10/10/04 A great read. I was handed one of these things at a local train station about a year ago and came away with the same conclusions as you regarding these bars.
