Advantages: yummylicious
Disadvantages: my waistline!!!!!
Mmmm Bourbon biscuits!! A love affair since childhood, they are the one biscuit nearly always to be found in my possession. Whether it's at home lurking near the kettle, waiting for the next cup of coffee to be made, or for me just to grab a couple as a treat for managing to put the washing on or wash a plate up. Or to be grabbed hastily to supress my sons tearful cries of 'NINNER' (that's dinner by the way and is used to refer to all foods, and drinks, and anything that may possibly be confused with food) while I try to throw together some actual food for him.
Or even stuffed in my locker at work, where there is a pack right now. My little treats to see me through the day.
Get in a little early - coffee and bourbons while I check the messages
morning break - coffee and bourbons while I read OK magazine
lunchtime - well coffee and bourbons make a fine 'pud' to my otherwise healthy (ahem) lunch
afternoon break - tea and bourbons coz, well coffee can give you a bit of an icky tummy after a while,
wahoo work finished - best grab a couple of bourbons for the walk home
Result is a pack of bourbons a day if I'm not careful, oh and anyone surprised I split my trousers today. Yikes.
Anyway I'm not gonna patronise anyone by describing a bourbon. I will however tell you there are only two acceptable ways to eat a bourbon biscuit.
1)As above, dunk in coffee, or tea (but not hot chocolate coz it ends up too sweet, or any overly sweet hot drink, like if you have nine sugars in your coffee then dunk first then sweeten) until the outer biscuit becomes soft. You have to have faith in the inner chocolaty filling to hold it together, but dont overstress it, I find a three second dunk sufficient. Then eat.
2)You have to carefully bite off one side of the biscuit leaving the innards intact. You may then eat the yummy centre but this must only be done by a)licking and b)gentle scraping with the teeth. I find it easiest to loosen this delicious middle with some delicate gnawing then finish off with my tongue. You may then eat the other side.
As you may have gathered I quite like these biccys. But the best thing about them has to be the price to chocolate craving satisfaction ratio. I usually buy the Somerfield own brand which come in at just 90p for a 400g pack. Compare this to real chocolate prices, and they work just as well on choccy cravings as Mars Bars, and aren't as sickly.
The only one complaint I'd have is the little tabby bit to open the pack (there's probably a technical name but I'll be damned if I know it) is located quite a way from the top, so on first opening you have to eat about eight biccys just so you can fold the pack over at the top.
Who am I kidding? that's not a real complaint.
Anyway-eat bourbons they're yummy, just dont read the nutritional info bits, and if you do dont tell me!!
Summary: eat the biccys you know you want to!
