Advantages: delicious, cheap, widely available
Disadvantages: not too healthy
I have lost count how many times my little sister has randomly wandered up to me with a Bourbon biscuit, half chewed, that she doesn't want any more. What was I supposed to do with it? Bin it? Eat it? Either way, I eat it! I find it so incredibly difficult to resist a bourbon biscuit; they are so unique and amazing! But what makes them so?
No matter what supermarket store you go into, they are bound to stock their own variety of bourbon biscuit; two of my favourites being Asda and Tesco. Though I find there is never a real difference between the biscuits, so it really is down to whichever is closest to you! Bourbons are no bigger than your index finger, and are a delicious milk chocolate brown shade. They are built like a sandwich, with a layer of biscuit on the top and bottom, and cream in the middle.
On the top, the word BOURBON is printed, with holes around. I doubt these are airholes, but simply for decoration! You can eat these in several ways. I like to peel off the top layer and bite into the biscuit. It is quite dry and crunchy, covered in a light dusting of sugar. They have an unusual taste, almost like chocolate. I then nibble around the hard layer of cream on the bottom biscuit, so there is just the cream situated on a little section of biscuit. Sucking on the cream, this delicious melting chocolate sensation coats your tastebuds. You cannot help but eat away at the softening biscuit either, to finish the biscuit off!
I sometimes like to dunk the biscuit in a cup of tea, without actally pulling anything apart! This makes the whole melting sensation with the chocolate extreme, and almost knocks you away! The biscuit and cream alike soften up very quickly and provide you with a perfect experience!
Now, nutritional values do vary slightly from store to store, but on average each biscuit contains around 65 calories and 3g of fat. I will admit that is quite a bit for a single snack, especially since it is not too large. Though I find that their taste is so incredibly strong that you do not need to eat a lot of these to satisfy any cravings!
The biscuits are generally priced from as little as 15p (Asda) and could be anything up to 80p-£1 depending on how 'posh' the make is! Stores own brands tend to come in large packs of about 20, so they are sure to keep you going and well worth the money!
