Advantages: contrast of textures

Disadvantages: could be more luxurious these days

These biscuits are real classics, and I can see why. I do kind of wish someone would update the concept though, because although they are nice I think they are half what they could be given that luxurious ingredients are much cheaper now than when this biscuit was created.

The filling is tasty, slightly chocolatey and like a firm cream. It's not that thick unfortunately, and not a flavour that stands out against the rest of the biscuit. I'd prefer deeper filling because one of the joys of this biscuit is the contrast between the brittle biscuit and the smooth chocolate cream.

The biscuit is pleasant but is clearly made with cocoa powder rather than true chocolate, so it has a slightly powdery taste to it that I think could be refined.

But the size and shape of the thing is just perfect. Like anyone else I like eating them in all sorts of different ways, and the biscuits hold together if you want to separate the layers, and are long so they can be dunked well.

But I can't complain too much, they are a classic and are normally one of the first to disappear on a mixed plate.

Summary: A classic biscuit and rightly so, but why no modern luxury versions?

I don't mind a bourbon, but with all that chocolate they should taste better :)
