The Classic Poor mans Chocolate biscuit...
This is what you always find in the bottom of your biscuit tin along with a few custard creams and broken rich tea.
The Bourbon is chocolate in origin although it doesn't have chocolate in the name which is strange.
It is 2 layers of chocolate type biscuit with a chocolate creme paste filling.
It is a distinct oblong shape with the word BOURBON engraved along the top with holes.
This classic doesnt belong to any specific company and it a free for all when it comes to manufacturing it.
Everyone that produces a bourbon will have their own individual recipe and packaging but each one looks very similar and is distinct by its style.
There is of course many way to each this classic. Every shop will stock bourbons and they are usually found it packs and usually under 50p.
THE DUNKER
The biscuit is dunked into a hot cup of tea, coffee or even hot chocolate. The biscuit will become soft and then eaten half soggy. There is of course a fine line in the sogginess as too long a dunk will result in the biscuit breaking up and dropping to the bottom of the cup never to be seen again.
THE LICKER
The biscuit is pulled apart and the soft chocolate paste is licked off the biscuit. Now it is only ever on one side... how..?? who knows why this happens but it does. After the paste has been licked off, the rest of the biscuit can be consumed.
THE NIBBLER
The biscuit is nibbled all the way round till only the choclate layer is left then the top layer is nibbled off. The choc paste layer is licked off then the left of the biscuit is eaten.
The licker and the nibbler can also be a dunker...
So the main question is which one are you?
Summary: This is the poor mans chocolate biscuit.
