... 1 of your 5 a day. I think 50% beans is pretty good for a tin of beans and think you would be hard pushed to find a tin with a higher bean content. These come in standard sized cans and feed two people. Packs of 4 vary in price but usually can be bought at less than £1.50 for 4. Just recently Morrissons were doing them at 79p for 4 but you could only buy 3 packs. (I of course took advantage of this offer!) Somerfield and Netto often also have them on offer but never at this ultra low price. All in all I love thes...more

Premium Review Branston Baked Beans: My New Beans of Choice (503 words)

Branston Beans have been around for a little while now, though they're by no means as established as a brand as Heinz Beans are just yet. They cost 63p each for an individual can in Tesco, or 50p each if bought as part of a £2 four pack. That's not too bad when you think that beans aren't generally cheap any more. Tesco beans are 44p each, or 42p each if bought as part of a £1.68 four pack. So to buy this premium brand, you're really not paying an awful lot more per can. I first tried these beans when Morrisons had them on offer at three cans for £1. At that price they were cheaper than Tesco own even, so I thought they had to be worth a try. Previously ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review WIll Branston be famous for beans rather than pickle now? (481 words)

'Branston is famous for its pickle and we'd like to become famous for our beans' - a quote from the back of the baked bean can - which I predict will come into its own. As I've watched food prices spiral in the shops, I noticed these beans on offer for £1 for 3 cans in Morrisons. Since this brought them to below the price of Morrison own brand - which I had been buying, I decided to give them a go. I opened the tin and was pleasantly surprised by what greeted me. A full tin, a lovely rich orange colour and it smelled pretty good too. I emptied the tin, which emptied easily - no scraping the bottom of the can where beans have settled. The ratio of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Branston Baked Beans: Getting in a pickle about Branstons baked beans (369 words)

Branston are part of the Crosse and Blackwell group and are better known for the infamous Branston pickle, which is one of those amazing British foods that you either love or hate, don't let that put you off if you hate the pickles, the baked beans are a serious contender for the mighty Heinz in the taste tests. I've always loved a nice tin of baked beans, as a kid sausage beans and chips was a real treat and even now beans on toast are a little hidden pleasure which I don't have nearly as much as I should. Baked Beans are virtually fat free are a good source of iron, protein and carbohydrates and taste great with a wide variety of foods. The tin ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review HEINZ VS BRANSTON !! DOES BEANS MEAN HEINZ? (333 words)

I love baked beans and for years I have always thought Heinz were the best.. Until.. Branston brought out their new baked beans !! As stated on the tin "SINCE 1922. BRANSTON IS FAMOUS FOR ITS PICKLE AND WE'D LIKE TO BECOME FAMOUS FOR OUR BEANS. TRY OUR CLASSIC BAKED BEANS IN A RICH AND TASTY TOMATO SAUCE." We all know branstons famous pickle, that is perfect for a cheese and pickle sandwich, but now they have released baked beans. I first bought them when they were released to give them a try. I was so surprised at how nice they are. Unlike Heinz they have a more thick texture, and seem to have less ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Branston Baked Beans: Beans means Branston (178 words)

I was never a great lover of baked beans and always thought that the more expensive brands tasted just marginally better than the cheaper ones. That was until I tasted Branston Baked Beans. The beans seem bigger in appearance than most other tins of beans and the sauce is delicious, it has a really tangy flavour that Branston is famous for. The look of the beans on your plate is good as the sauce looks natural in colour. The beans hold their shape when they are heated and don't go all mushy as some tins of baked beans have in the past and are soft and juicy when their eaten. The tin is a bright, attractive, colourful object which is easily picked out on the ...  Read the complete review
